OK, so only the geeks may know who Bjarne Stroustrup is, but guess which keyboard he uses (http://www.simple-talk.com/opinion/geek-of-the-week/bjarne-stroustrup-geek-of-the-week/)?

I love it. Seeing that on his desk, he seems like a kindred spirit. (Also, myself, being part-Danish and regarding C++ as my favorite programming language might have something to do with it.)

Looks like it could very well be the original HHKB keyboard. Paired with a fairly old (by today's standards) Sun mouse (non-laser, non-optical...ball inside).
So, kudos for the HHKB layout...but sub-optimal interfaces otherwise. ;)

ooh, a Sun mouse and IBM monitor as well, haha. It does look like the 'HHKB' on the desk there which I can confirm mine looks exactly the same, not surprised as he has the sun mouse probably has a sun blade system.
^iMav: the type 6 mouse isn't that old, they also kick ass and have a pretty high sensitivity or whatever you call it.

Cool. Too bad C++ is getting no love these days. BTW, he also uses the Sam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_(text_editor)) editor. It's like a mouse-enabled ed on steroids. You could say it's vi's sibling. When I finally decided that I had to learn a "real editor" once and for all, I brielfly considered it. Ended up going with vim instead.

Well, any ed-like editor would have to be on a lot of steroids to be usable. (at least enough to make it a full-screen editor) :)
I had to make copious use of ed on a partially crippled unicos system one time to get it functional again. (it was the only editor available to me in its crippled state) What a pain in the butt!!

It's fullscreen, divided into 2 windows. One for commands, the other for text. The mouse is used for selecting text and switching between the 2 windows. Should be available as a binary package in most Linux distros.

Some things are best not to have vintage versions of. Monitors and pointing devices are two of those.

Unless the pointing device is a Logitech Trackman Marble trackball...

Nope, even then it's best to have some thing modern (I'm only saying this to get a rise out of iMav, maybe even a rant).

You, obviously, don't know pointing perfection when you see it. :)
-
What, you mean Apple's track pad isn't the best the ever lived?
you have to know I'm kidding now.

Uhhh huh . . .
I just looked on ebay and good lord...the prices...
They are pricey because they are in demand. Logitech trackballs went downhill after the Trackman Marble's.
