Title: Full set of PBT keycaps for 88/105 (EU layout) filco tenkeyless?
Post by: viowastaken on Sun, 06 October 2013, 12:22:55
Hi guys,

Title says all.
I've been doing some searching and still can't find a full set of PBT keycaps that will fit the euro layout as depicted underneath:

Thanks in advance and I apologize if I'm just too dumb to find this by my self  :thumb:

In my continued search I've been able to find a few ducky sets that may fit:

I'm a bit unsure of the stabilizer compatibility though. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Thanks :)

Ducky sets are probably one of your best choices. They will be 100% compatible with your Filco, you only need to take the stab inserts that come stock on your keyboard and place them in the new keys. I think teraset.net has the most selection of the aftermarket Nordic keycap sets.

Thanks very much, I just found duckynordic's thread on deskthority and found that too.

I also found that Vortex will likely release the ISO ones real soon too; check out their facebook post on september 28th:

The newer version should be thick pbt, they were however a limited run and I think mostly sold with the fullsize G2pro boards. The other ones are think pbt I have a set on my ducky and while they are nice I much prefer cherry profile.

Oh yeah... might also have a look around for any Cherry G80-3000L*CNO-0. Might be tough to find but could end up being around the same price as some keycap sets. For the most part G80 are pretty cheap in Europe and a good way to try some other switch or have a back up board.

As always, thanks!

Edit: oops, ment to quote you there Ivan.

Are there any other cherry models which I could harvest the keycaps from?
I tried doing a few google searches, but nothing really came up looking right.

Thank you.

Not really for PBT. If you want POM look for same but with a -2 on the end instead of -0 or doubleshot ABS then you would want H*N or H**NO codes but they are pretty uncommon. You could take keycaps from G81 models too, but not all the keys will fit.

Gotcha.

I haven't found any boards yet, surfing eBay mostly. Any other insider tips as to where I may find a board for keycap harvesting?
Thanks again Ivan, I owe you a beer if we ever meet :)

Righto, small update here.

I've gotten in touch with Kirsi at Teraset.net and they had this beauty of a ISO thick PBT layout available:

- In a full 105 key layout though.
The board I'll be using it for is the above mentioned black filco tenkeyless with cherry mx blues.

Anyways, as a compulsive keyboard hoarder I had another shipment come in yesterday which was the white Keycool 84 with thin pbt keycaps.
Unfortunately the keycool was extremely warped. I had one already which had a very slight rattle to it that i fixed by sanding down one of the sides, but this new one is way beyond what you can fix with sandpaper. Anyways, I got to feel PBT keycaps for the first time, and wow. There are many things which are hyped and turn out to not be quite what they are cracked up to be. These were thin PBT keycaps, and were just about the most pleasant typing sensation that I have ever felt. Supposedly the thick are even better? needless to say I can't wait until my package arrives with my new babies.

I also had a little bit of a dialogue with the Vortex guys via their facebook page. As mentioned earlier in this thread they seem to be launching some new PBT ISO sets now, and I asked them about availability etc.
He said I should contact the people at KBTrace.com as they are the ones who handle the european distributions.

I haven't gotten a reply from KBTrace.com yet, but it would be interesting to see what is going to be released and at what price. I have used a completely plain set of keycaps before, and allthough it works fine as long as I'm just typing, when I enter numbers (keep in mind this is a tenkeyless) for my bank account passcode etc, it can be a bit of a pain in the ass. Therefore I think in the future I'll likely land on some mixed set of keycaps to achieve typing nirvana.

Sorry for the wall of text, but hopefully this can be of some help to others who are in the market for thick PBT iso caps.

Is the set of the picture OEM or Cherry profile? Is it still available?

I'm not sure about the profile.

She said she had just received 20 sets, so I'm assuming she has more right now.

So, keys just arrived

Here are some poor smartphone pics of it:

It's already getting pretty dark here so the pictures were really bad, but the key caps are real nice, and I'm happy with the look and feel.
