I think I can quote Cherilee who once opined "This [...] has been strange"

I love how vibrant the yellow is.

Are those keycaps blank? The teasers show them as blank but this one seems to have translucent lettering on it.

Looks like it, or very similar lighting effects. This might just break my resolve not to get any more keyboard.....other than a Poker 2.

If only this had a custom plate, I would pick this up so fast... but it doesn't, and there's no way I'm desoldering and re-soldering back in all those LEDs just to lube up the switch :'( If only there was a full-size custom plate, I would consider it... it's so pretty though.

Just type with gloves on with a little vasoline in the finger tips....lubed fingers...then you don't have to lube the switches :P

Blargh! Also, that TKL is the first Shine 3 TKL I've seen so far, so that's actually pretty awesome. Have they released the TKL Shine 3 yet, or is this the first one?

Do the Universal TKL plates fit the Ducky's??? I can't remember, but if it does... shoot... I may actually have to pick one up... even if I have to desolder dem LEDs...

I like the looks of that yellow TKL, and I'm sure it's a great keyboard--I'm a big Ducky fan, having owned 2 Shine II's.

I'd like to - yes I really do like yellow

The only thing that puts me off is the lack of, say, black legends.  A lot of my typing tends to be a few characters here, a few characters there, and I tend to glance at the keyboard to hit the right few characters.  It is rare that I actually type for an extended period.

This is based on someone's comment that the keycaps are engraved, but watching the video again are they the usual Ducky backlight-friendly transparent legend keycaps?

Also I wonder whether those yellow keycaps themselves will be available separately?

Yellow ducky case + Bumble bee set

BB would only detract from the glorious yellowness!

I think this is the keyboards that OMG has. Ducky probably gave them samples. Looks good  :p

Wrong. They had a black case, not yellow.

Are you sure you actually watch LoL? Team OMG had yellow cased Ducky keyboards.

I don't know if anyone's aware of this, but the yellow keyboard would be available with either White or Clear switch, I made a reservation with the local distributer for one as well.....he knows that either would be available, just not sure whether it'd be White or Clear (do remember that here in Asia, the term 'White' is often used instead of Clear).

Thank you letting us know! I'm pretty sure it's Clears because Ducky has referred to their Cherry MX Clears as Whites before. I also don't believe they've released any Cherry MX White keyboards, while they've released a few Clears before already. Thanks again for the update!

Yep, come to think of it, the DK9008G2 Pro had 'Whites' which was actually Clears. I don't mind Clears actually, the distributer did warn me that it'd be in very limited quantity though, hence my going to him today to personally reserve one.....he' was allotted only six of these boards.

Looking at heavy-arm.com, a Malaysian supplier, they are selling them for about $180 USD (530 RM) with a projected arrival date of December 31st. Apparently two months ago, twenty were released in Malaysia in a limited edition release.
Now if only they'd make a white version..

But it would be pointless having different colors on yellow, it's a theme! In that case (NPI), might as well just get a black or white case.

Wireless as is standard, you could make it wireless by using a Bluetooth Micro-USB system, but it's not worth the effort in my opinion.

It's not wireless, the wire is just covered by that sheet of paper. It looks like it has a yellow wire in the top right corner.

e.e You're right, I wasn't considering the whole factor of power. Ducky has a microprocessor which wouldn't be operable without power, so the Ducky might be one that's useless when using bluetooth.

Reds/Blacks are best for gaming. Blacks are heavy and I don't like them at all, but some find Reds too light.
Browns aren't really good for gaming, just in between gaming/typing (which blues are best at).

I would say if it is his first mech and he likes the way his current keyboard is feeling while typing (I believe he's using a rubberdome keyboard), I would suggest brown switches. I guess the linear switches (MX Red/Black) are maybe too much to adapt to, especially if he is using it for typing/surfing as well. When I recieved a keyboard with MX Black they were to heavy for me and my fingers got tired real fast and I missed the actuation point, the force you need to overcome so that the key press is processed.
I never tried MX Reds, so I don't know how they feel or if they would've changed my mind if I hadn't got a MX Black keyboard first.

You can try luring the answers out of him and ask some light questions that won't reference to the Ducky keyboard. Like if you were searching for you and you would like his input on the topic or stuff like that. :)

Has anyone gotten one yet...  I want to see someone do the GH standard 120wpm on this...  should be epileptic..

I just watched the video again.. it seems that the ripple effect is sluggish and each ripple is quite wide.

This means that if you were typing very fast.. it would just look like the keyboard is "blinking"  rather than giving the distinct light-ripple effect...

now I am sad...(http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-001.gif)

You can adjust the rate of things; for the reactive it's the speed at which it fades, for the ripple it's the speed that it ripples, etc.
So if I was typing on it, I don't think that anything would really work, so I'd probably have to go reactive.

just holding a single switch in your hand and pressing it will not give you an impression of what it feels like to type on a keyboard with those switches.

Your best bet is to find someone you know, or a local store selling mechanical keyboards, and try using an actual keyboard.

If not, maybe try mounting the switches in something to simulate the keyboard case.

Heh it would be a serial ball mouse IIRC.  I ripped a few of those apart at work recently to get the sensors out of them.

I'm not quite sure, but I would try to ask getDigital.de about this, maybe they'll get the yellow Ducky. Especially as they are the retailer for Ducky keyboards in Germany.
You also can try the keyboardco shop, it ships from the UK and should be affordable, but I don't know if they will have this in stock or not.

Yellow does have that certain appeal, doesn't it ;)

Any word on what switches it is (potentially) available with?

We (MK) will be getting Black, Brown, Blue, and Brown MX with our order. No confirmed word yet if there will be any others.

I wonder who will be the first Geekhacker to buy and post a pic here.....

I, and we (MK), hope to be the first to post an unboxing video...though probably doesn't count since I am not personally purchasing one at this time... :))

This is based on someone's comment that the keycaps are engraved, but watching the video again are they the usual Ducky backlight-friendly transparent legend keycaps?

No, these keycaps are straight up blank or laser-engraved PBT. Apparently the yellow LED will shine nicely under these 'caps, but may not illuminate the legends as well as the ABS would.

Also I wonder whether those yellow keycaps themselves will be available separately?

So far, there's no word on separate yellow keycap sets.

I love it I just can't get behind any keyboard that isn't tenkeyless, I don't know why...

We have TKL Yellows available for preorder, and they will be coming in at the same time as the fulls...

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/incoming.php

I don't know if anyone's aware of this, but the yellow keyboard would be available with either White or Clear switch, I made a reservation with the local distributer for one as well.....he knows that either would be available, just not sure whether it'd be White or Clear (do remember that here in Asia, the term 'White' is often used instead of Clear).

We would like to get these, but we have no confirmation on that either. It is not unheard of for Ducky to throw in a few random key switch types on us, stay tuned...

Do Chinese people hate tenkeyless or something?

I would hope that no one besides me would hate tenkeyless... :p ...jk

I was referring from other online establishments, and often eBay shipping for a keyboard is outrageous.

"Apparently the yellow LED will shine nicely under these 'caps, but may not illuminate the legends as well as the ABS would"

Will it illuminate the legends enough to make them readable day or night? I don't care if it is not as flashy as what more backlit friendly caps would.

Me wanna see videos :-)

None of these keyboards have backlight-friendly legends, they're either just engraved or completely blank.

Understood - but the engraving probably change the way the light diffuse in the keycap. That's why I was/still wondering if it is enough to enable reading the legend in the dark.

None of these keyboards have backlight-friendly legends, they're either just engraved or completely blank.

I just watched the video again.. it seems that the ripple effect is sluggish and each ripple is quite wide.

This means that if you were typing very fast.. it would just look like the keyboard is "blinking"  rather than giving the distinct light-ripple effect...

now I am sad...

At my mighty 40 wpm it's a freaking light show. I don't think that it would make a huge difference 40-120. It looks like it's blinking.

Heh, I want to turn down the lighting time and see if I can make the whole board light up while typing. I guess if you type pretty fast, unlike me, you could just turn down the lighting time.
Or at least I'm pretty sure that I saw that as an option.

Definitely mechanicalkeyboards.com (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com), they have free shipping and I think that they're the only supplier. Shipping apparently takes 3-5 days and can be shortened.
However, they won't be coming in till the 21st at least, so you might be out of luck on that. =(

I was told by the local distributer of Ducky that the yellow Ducky (with MX Clear) would hit the local shore somewhere in December......so, I guess I'd have to just sit here, twiddle my thumbs and wait patiently.......just like I'm waiting patiently for my Miami set.

Just wondering, does the 12/6 estimated arrival for some of the boards still hold true?
Also, I assume that you received and ship, or do you have the keyboards sent directly to pre-orderers from Ducky?

Well, if you look at the incoming stock page it will say from December 1st to the 20th. We hope that we can get them in by the 6th, but...

Ducky sends them to us, we stock them on our shelves, and we send them out as ordered. We do not drop ship keyboards, not sure who would in this industry.

And dammit Massdrop, why do you sell the Ergodox when I've preordered this? Now I'm considering canceling and getting a kit. *cries*

It took me a long time, and two failed attempts, but I managed to get a set of Filco yellow keycaps too!

They are slightly orangey yellow, which is fine by me.

I eventually removed them as they were beginning to shine.

Now I have BumbleBee set from KeyPop on that keyboard.

Recently noticed a partner store in Taiwan listed the full sized yellow edition keyboard, among the black, brown, blue and red switches available, there are also limited boards with MX Cherry White (they were referred to as milk axis on the website, and I have also confirmed this with Ducky support).

Currently in a market for a mechanical keyboard. I briefly tried the various switches at the store, but being the novice I didn't try each switch slowly (didn't take notice of the difference between linear/tactile/clicky). Primary use would be gaming (FPS/MOBA/RTS).

My initial thoughts were that Browns felt too easy to press (coming from using rubber dome keyboard), and although the Blacks felt nice, my main concern is that my fingers will get sore/tired after extended use.

Now that I've also come across MX Cherry White (though I think I would of preferred Clears without having tried them, only judging by actuation force) while browsing keyboards online, but I can't imagine how much of distraction it will be (due to it being clicky, but I've heard it may not be as loud as Blue/Green switches).

I plan to visit the store and try the switches again before I make a decision, but I would like to hear from others that share similar thoughts/experiences.

Try red? They are lighter than browns. Or you could mod it yourself for lighter keypresses

I like Milk switches but I'd advise MK to check each keyboard before they are sent out as they seem to have large numbers that fail to produce a click.

My only worry is that I would bottom out - I'm not exactly light with my fingers (I would say I use moderate force). Would using O-Ring mod to cushion the impact be a viable option?

If you use too much force, try to correct it rather than mitigate the effects. It would probably be better to get Clears, Greens, or Blacks to help.

They would cushion the impact, but would also stop the downward motion slightly sooner, so your fingers would be exerting pressure to push the key down after it already stopped.

The trick is to learn to type without bottoming out, although I've been trying for years and still haven't.

I have fairly strong fingers, and blues and reds are too light for me, so I tend to switch between blacks and greens at work and between Topre and BS at home.

The switches feel just right, I don't bottom out too hard, and don't have any finger discomfort.

Thanks for the replies. Still waiting on the TKL version to be released here, can hardly wait!

On another note yellow PBT key caps are being sold separately as well, but the store is only taking pre-orders at this stage.

I wonder who will be the first Geekhacker to buy and post a pic here.....

I would love to be in that position.  Unfortunately IF the keyboard is available in Australia and IF I can afford it, it will probably be months after everyone else has theirs :(

It's good to see you plan on getting one though :p Unlike me... I don't think I will, as much I like it.

Rowdy... you have no excuse anymore... other than money... bc your problem has been solved...bc this just came up:

Not sure why they would want to commemorate a duck, as large and yellow as it might be.  To show solidarity or sympathy with whatever the first dusk represents, perhaps.

Also the "yellow duckling" was the Google translate - this might not be 100% what was intended.

Probably more along the lines of admiration than anything else.

There's also the logo of a yellow duck in the shape of the letter "S" (to stand for Shine perhaps) next to the Ducky branding on the box.

Depending on the availability of yellow PBT key caps, I may just get a regular TKL Shine 3 - yellow on black looks pretty nice.

You're prolly right, I've been told by the local distributer of Ducky that it's MX Clear, needless to say< i have one reserved. IF it were available in the usual MX Red/Black?Brown/Blue, I'd have a hard time justifying the purchase, but since it's Clear, I'm all over it like a bad rash. :p

After inquiring about TKL yellow edition since the full sized became available in Taiwan, it seems the 80% boarda are extremely scarce. There are apparently only 2 TKL boards with English key caps in Taiwan, Ducky rep said he would save me one (with Zhuyin) if only they weren't all spoken for.

Wasn't exactly expecting to jump through hoops for my first mechanical keyboard.

Pretty sure they are clears. The past couple times they called it "white", they were clears. I don't remember ever seeing a Ducky keyboard with clicky white switches yet. Of course, I could be wrong and they tried something new this time around, which would be cool too!

The only time I've ever seen a Ducky with White is on my 78 Version, there was DK9008G2 Pro with blue and grey key caps that was referred to as White, but it was Clear as well. I tested it personally, it was tactile, but lacking that subtle click which the White on my 78 Version made. I will know for sure in a few hours, working now but waiting for the shop to open at about 12+ noon.

NCIX listed it as MX Milk, but I suspect that they had believed Ducky's reference to it being White....so they called it MX Milk. Either that, or the all yellow Ducky has both Clear and White versions.....which I find unlikely. The local distributor of Ducky is pretty adamant that it is Clear.

Well. the first thing I want to get out of the way is what switch type it has......White! I couldn't believe it when I depress the switch, there was a soft/subtle click. I took a pic and noted that it has a little appendage/dot on the right of each switch....

With that out of the way, the all yellow Ducky MX White I'd gotten comes with the basic wire key cap puller, a black USB cable (shame on you Ducky, it should have been yellow!) and red WASD keys.......nothing else.

Ooo! The first fully Cherry White Ducky keyboard I've seen! Not only that, it's all yellow and beautiful! Congrats on your awesome keyboard, bro! I'll look forward to reading about your impressions on it. Jelly :P

Holy crap a Ducky board with full Whites! Do all the switches click equally? Or do some stick?

Well. the first thing I want to get out of the way is what switch type it has......White!

For those hoping that the etched legends would be easily legible even with LED off will be disappointed. It is almost 'ninja' looking. legends are hardly visible even with LED on.....still I like it, it's gonna force me to learn to NOT look at the keys when I type.

Sure, here's a pic, I'm comparing it with a keycap from my YOTS....looks like thick PBT to me, or am I wrong?

Nice.. Those yellow engraved caps above look great!
Hope the yellow quickly becomes more widely distributed.. If it's successful enough it may encourage mire makes to create cool colour themes alike

I like Milk switches but I'd advise MK to check each keyboard before they are sent out as they seem to have large numbers that fail to produce a click.

The first kbt pure I got from MK had a non-clicking white as well :/ they ofc replaced it, but still.

Ah I see what you're talking about. I can actually empathize with this. I believe though that this may have to do with the construction of the keyboard, and the keycaps, more so than lube.

An example of how much the actual construction can have an effect on feel and sound: Some people may have already heard me say this over and over, but, assuming that all companies use OEM Cherry MX switches, my older Ducky DK9008 with Blues (sky blue), is the by far the best feeling Blue switch keyboard I've ever used. I have tried and owned many keyboards in the past with Cherry MX Blues (Ducky DK9008, Ducky Shine 2, Das, Filco, CM QFR, Leopold, Xarmor, and Blackwidow), and I must say that the Ducky blue switch boards feel the best, hands down. It is much more resonant and the break/click is much more pronounced than other boards I've felt. I believe the closest one that can compare is the CM QFR. Obviously though, this doesn't have anything to do with lube, because lube would kill the click.

No.
Cherry switches are actually very inconsistent between batches. Since you can't go to the store and play with one you're going to buy, it is like playing lottery, especially in regards to browns. I have some red and black boards that you cannot tell apart. MX whites are REALLY bad. They ratio of unclicky switches are just too high. I don't get the hype.

Shine 3 came with clipped genuine Cherry stabilizers. Going forward... ;o

I am using a keyboard with blue case and black keysets, I feel that the blue color is kind of annoying, and I remember that I have to change the yellow keysets to black on my Filco yellow top edition because the same reason. I would image that the whole yellow ducky won't be easy for the eye.

Don't get me wrong, I like the color theme, but it's probably not suitable for long time use.

I just got mine, and all is great except that F6, F7, F8, F2, F3, F3 and F4 don't light up. Does anyone know why that is?

EDIT: Ok so I just saw Padawangeeks photos again, and for him it's the same thing one of his photos, but on another photo they are lit. I guess it's some sort of setting. I thought they were broken at first, I always fear the worst.

By the way, for anyone wondering, the keyboard feels amazing. I switched up from a QPAD MK-50 and boy does this one feel way better. The sound and feel of the PBT keycaps (never tried PBT before) and the overall quality made me instantly fall in love. Also, TKL > Full size any day of the week.

What switches did you get?

Did you get blank or engraved keycaps?

MX Red, engraved.

I have MX black engraved on order.

Are the legends very visible with backlighting on and off?

The few pictures I have seen suggest that they are not, but photos of backlit keycaps are not always strictly representative of what you would see in real life.

I have seen a review indicating that they are not.

That was my impression too.

Guess I'll find out soon enough.

They're not VERY visible, but they're more visible than you think after looking at for example padawangeeks photos. On those photos it looks like you only can see the led light, but you can actually see the legends quite easily (atleast when the LEDS are the brightest). It's a lot easier with other backlit keyboards though. Personally, it's not an issue because I rarely look at my keyboard (although this one I find it hard to keep my eyes off of :p), and when I do I can still see the legends without much of a problem. But I guess that's very subjective. Might be worth mentioning that the number keys are barely visible even with LED on, because the LED is placed above the engraved number. This is not the case with any other key.

On another note, I find that the red LED light under the spacebar is far brighter than the blue and the green LED lights. Neither blue nor green shines through the key like red (and yellow) LEDs do.

What is the least expensive shop for this if you are in Germany?

I'm not quite sure, but I would try to ask getDigital.de about this, maybe they'll get the yellow Ducky. Especially as they are the retailer for Ducky keyboards in Germany.
You also can try the keyboardco shop, it ships from the UK and should be affordable, but I don't know if they will have this in stock or not.

Thank you for the tip, Genkidama. I emailed getdigital.de about a week ago, but unfortunately they do not sell the yellow Ducky. Keyboardco.com does not have any Ducky keyboards listed in their shop, so I didn't ask.

Getting the yellow Ducky from mechanicalkeyboards.com would cost 152 USD + 39 USD = 191 USD ~= 140 EUR. Plus import sales tax that would be 168 EUR. A bit much.

Is there a less expensive method? Maybe another shop in Europe? Or a shop that deducts their local VAT when exporting?

No, but Ducky is coming out with a new dual-tone thick PBT set in January. I know they come in Nordic/iso layout, not sure about ansi.

Last time I checked teraset.net had a full-sized with MX White switches in stock. Not sure about price/VAT etc, though.

I'd taken a pic comparing the yellow PBT key caps with one from my YOTS, looks like thick PBT.....it's on pg 9, reply #257.

I'm in Asia, that pic was taken in a local distributor of Ducky, another member here, JoKrik, has been to that very same shop. I'd told him about the Whites and he'd called to reserve one for himself....he's since gotten his as well.

Yellow edition key cap sets are available in Taiwan, in Blank, English or Zhuyin ansi layout.

Has anyone gotten one of these from NCIX? Their site doesn't specify Engraved or Blank keycaps on the yellows and I am curious which I am going to be getting. If you have please let me know whether you got Blank or Engraved and if you ordered from NCIX.com or NCIX.ca.

Can you check the part number?

mk.com lists, for example, TKL MX black engraved as DK9087S3-AUSPTYYY1 and blank as DK9087S3-AUSPUYYY1.

The T does seem to indicate engraved legends.

The "features" list for DK9008S3-AUSPTYYY1 does say "engraved", and the only letter that differs in their part numbers for the Ducky yellow keyboards seems to related to the switch.
