It usually stays low until the last hours of the auction. Guess someone decided to jump on it early...

You mean that's not how you should bid?
Also, that purple PS/2 connector? Anyone ever seen one of those on a Model M?
-
Insane. I'll bide my time. Eventually these things will lose their popularity and go back to selling for $60 each.
-
Also, there is no controller in the pictures. What's up with that...?
-
did anyone notice? it's also bolt modded
-
If you read the description, all shall be revealed.

Read the description? Who actually READS the description?
It's partially bolt modded. Looks like he drilled out the broken rivets and bolted them, but left the rest. I'd think some of the others might fail soon enough.
-
Kin King used to be a member here, didn't he?
The partial bolt mod would be a lot easier - there would be none of that drama about whether everything was seated correctly and taking it apart multiple times.
On the other hand, I always relished the idea of cleaning everything immaculately to get a fresh start.
-
It's bolt-modded. I had asked him for photos before he listed it, and he described the cleaning and repairs. I didn't want to pay the ridiculously high "buy it now" price, however. It's the same seller who sold an industrial full-sized (also bolt-modded) Model M on eBay to a fellow GeekHacker here a few days ago.

Yeah, but by that time Unicomp will have their SSK in production... ;)

He's going to be biding his time for an awful long while then. ;)
-
If Unicomp puts them into production (ha ha), they will have to recoup their tooling costs, so the price will have to be considerably more than their established products.
I doubt that we will ever see them selling for less than the low-$100 range unless somebody lists one Buy-it-Now at a low price because they don't know what they have (it happens).
-
I haven't seen an SSK for less than $100 in the last ~3 years. Of course, that's not counting a few sold by those that didn't know what they had like FH said. Full size Ms are another story. They were $50 all day long a year and a half ago.
-
Well that escalated quickly. It was $52 just a few hours ago.
-
sigh $182....
I contacted the seller - additional $85 to ship to Australia.
sigh
-
Up to $236 with 3 days left!

It is the way of things.
If you are lucky, you can get one shipped from O/S for about $50. 'Bout the cheapest shipping I have seen.

Well, there's always this other one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/281185616044) which is lowe..um....was lower. Now at $242.
But it claims to be mint condition and does have the box...
(No shipping to Australia though.)

That is usually the case with keyboards.

That means you live just up the road from me!

A proper IBM box in good condition makes the item quite a bit more desirable, but hard to place a dollar value on it.
I got a poor-to-fair box (including styrofoam) with a nasty F AT that I bought a few years ago, and am glad to have it (the box, that is).

IBM keyboards will keep their value better than the current trendy varieties because of IBM's historical significance. Model M Space Saving Keyboards are rare by comparison and Mint in original box is very hard to come by. Long term, IBMs are very collectible - in 20, 50, 100 years no one will care about a USB Cherry keyboard with blinking LEDs but an IBM from the dawn of personal computing will be very desirable.
I shouldn't argue because I wish everyone would stick to key caps and LED mini keyboards so I can keep stocking up on vintage computing goodness. :)

Everyone's opinion is valued here, so never feel like your alone with that sentiment. I agree also, 50 years from now the "specialists" here on Geekhack will know of the fabled Model-M and F keyboards but Cherry, may be gone and possibly replaced with something else that's trendy and hip for that future time.

It's at $280 with 40 minutes to go.

Not that you're watching it closely, or anything ;)

Whoever gets it I hope you enjoy it.....now only 13 minutes to go.
-
I just want to know how much it goes for. The recent prices have been sky high. I currently have 2 SSKs that are in mint condition from 87 and I am seriously considering selling one if the prices keep going up.
-
6 minutes, $285 (not that I'm watching it or anything).
-
Jumped to $305 with 30 seconds left, then $345 with 2 seconds left, and sold...
-
$345.00
23 bids
Really hotted up in the last 30 seconds.
Hope someone enjoys their new keyboard.
-
Man, up to $345 in the last 30 seconds or so! That was pretty fun to watch.
...(smknjoe goes to take pics of SSK)...;)
Seriously, I hope the buyer enjoys it. I use mine more than any other keyboard I have by far since I procured mine.
-
Just got it for $360 including shipping. :D

That was you?
Exciting last few seconds!!
Hope you enjoy it :)
-
I will indeed, kinda glad I got this one. I don't think my pockets are deep enough for the other one up there.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271294218944 Yep in the end it went for a paltry - $345.00USD. The seller should be stoked at least ;D .

Don't forget to let the rest of us know when you're ebaying your baby.

I love my kids too much right now, but that may die off after a while. They are certainly going for good money these days.
If I do decide to sell I'll certainly let GHers know!
