Title: Cherry mx browns feeling different on different boards?
Post by: C5Allroad on Sat, 12 October 2013, 11:17:22
I went to bestbuy to buy a mouse mat and station cash for planet side 2. I happen to pass by Logitech "gaming" peripherals. I took advantage and started typing, it almost felt like my reds... Is that normal? Or just the quality of construction on the boards.

Heavier keycaps -> Need less force to actuate, i.e. to go pass the bump -> Feel like Red.

Yes, absolutely.  And Ducky Shine caps have very special feel to them (well, those translucent coated ABS caps of OEM profile).  I think they work better with some switches.  I have stock Clears with thin PBTs and stock Clears on a Ducky with Shine caps, and I prefer them on the Ducky.

The feeling is different even between Filco Majestouch and Ducky, both of them are red switch, but Filco switch feel more solid and heavy.

Does this mean I now have to obtain a board from every manufacture with the same switch in addition to having a board with every switch? :p

Generally not.

A switch might feel different due to different plate thickness, case material, case thickness, plate vs. PCB mount and so on.

If you extract one switch from each keyboard (switches of the same type) you would probably find that they were pretty much identical.

I could kinda tell, although you are on the right track to true Geekhackness.

I am merely the Church of Halverson Pope, Australian Chapter.

Your Holiness is a conventional term of reference, but Your Sharkiness would seem to be more appropriate.

 :)) :p

I agree on the keycaps thing. If it was the G710+, they have o-rings pre-installed. That could make a difference, too.

Right but I went slowly to feel the bump, it was barely there... What kind of o-rings does it use?
