Long time lurker, first time poster...
I just built a new computer, and purchased a VERY bad keyboard... worst I have ever typed on... non standard layout with an extra \ key between shift and Z... makes it almost impossible for me to maintain speed unless I just write in all lower case.
So long story short, I started searching on this board, (nice forum BTW), and started reading about all the types of switches... I bet I would like the blues or browns, because of the tactile feel. Does anyone know what switch comes on this particular board? (G80-11900). I do not mind the form factor, because this will not leave the home office, I have my eyes on a Filco Tenkeyless English Brown Nkey for that ;-)
Thanks for your help... I truly think anything will be an improvement over the crap I am using now.

Lol eww iso layouts. The 11900 I believe has brown switches, but why order that when you can have the G80-3000 in any Cherry MX switch cheaper and more traditional layout?
But the integrated pointing device appeals to me, so I have a 11800 (the 11900's predecessor) coming to me soon. I shall report on it upon receipt.
I personally really like the black ALPS switches (soft tactile, like the Cherry browns I guess but a bit heavier) in the Dell AT101W. There's a lot of NIB ones now being sold on ebay - geekhack had a run on them last week.
That's the AT101W. (http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-104-Key-PS2-6P-USA-Keyboard-NEW-227KN_W0QQitemZ370127527802QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item370127527802&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318)

The Cherry G80-11900 have black/linear switches.

ya, the 11800's have browns. There's one on ebay right now (http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=11800+keyboard&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=g80-11800&_osacat=0) for $19. :)

Ah. I knew i got the 11800 for a reason.

Fug-ly, Omg!

 I have two of them. I've become quite fond of its quirky design.

I don't know. I don't think I would like the double rows of F keys. But the trackball in the lower right might be nice.
-
The double function key row is hard to get used to. I use the numpad for paging keys. I don't use the trackball at all, I feel like it gets in the way. I like the smaller width of the keyboard and the arrow keys being closer.

ditto for me, didnt like the double row of function keys, but I liked having the numpad and the relatively squished form factor, and I hated the trackball, wound up taking it out and putting duct tape over it so I could rest my hand there when using the numpad. But the spacesaver size is nice.

The second part in the Cherry model number is the case type. For ex. G80-3000 and G81-3000 have the same case type. I don't know if that goes so far that the case is interchangeable. Probably not.
11800 and 11900 are similar numbers because the case is similar (trackball vs. touchpad).
