Title: Vintage Russian Keyboard Resources?
Post by: Tarzan_ on Thu, 17 October 2013, 11:00:50
I may be traveling to St. Petersburg in the next couple of weeks, and was wondering if there are any markets for used electronics that are worth checking out?

I've seen a few vintage keyboards show up on eBay, but most of these seem to have been from Czechoslovakia; Tesla or Consul models.  Are there any I should consider looking for in Russia?

i'd say they're equivalent in Cool-ness

actually CCCP maybe a little "less" today, because we have that stupid Universal codec thing CCCP... which ruins CCCP

When I lived in St. Pete.  ( nearly 5 years ago now )  Most computers had stickers on the keys for the Russian alphabet,  It was actually pretty hard to find factory Russian keyboards, let alone mechanical ones.

There was (is?) one eBay seller in Bulgaria who had some older mechanical keyboards, but it was really a mixed batch of stuff.  I know that prior to the 90's there was a real split between stuff built for the domestic market, and items intended for sale to Europe, all the best quality stuff was sold for hard currencies.  But I'd sure like to find some old Tesla keyboard, or similar, or even a set of dye-sub Cyrillic caps from a Chicony.  I guess I'll see...

This also seems to be the case with the many available Bulgarian/ex-Soviet keyboards. (http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_osacat=0&_armrs=1&_ssn=k-systems-store&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC2.A0.Xkeyboard&_nkw=keyboard&_sacat=0&_from=R40)

there are only two i can think of:
1) http://www.spb-unona.ru/contact
2) flea market at udelnaya railway station
your chance of finding anything valuable on both is close to zero.
