Title: Berserk is on indefinite hiatus!

BERSERK MANGA'S NOW ON INDEFINITE HIATUS!

With so many loose threads and things that need development, it will take another 20 years to finish this manga even in the best of times. And now author is reportedly half dead or has a foot in the grave, and the manga is on indefinite hiatus!

Important piece of wisdom I'll like to share with everybody. NEVER start a manga that is not already finished. In the past few decades I have wasted more than enough time on manga that was never ever finished because the publishers shelved the project halfway through and author lost interest.

Post by: dorkvader on Sun, 20 October 2013, 14:08:30: I always enjoy finished webcomics a lot for this very reason. 8 bit theater, ozy and millie, daisyowl are among my favourites because they are done. Not all ended properly, but at least you know where you stand.

I didn't know this...

Does ah.. was the anime missing a great deal of "middle-store-detail" from the manga..

I am just wondering if I need to read the "whole thing"... to get the story straight.

I agree with this. If you're satisfied with the anime, don't bother on the manga. You'll probably love it, read it for days and then....no ending.

Guess it depends how fast or how much you read in a day. I believe there are 333 chapters out. They should be month release length chapters as well, not short weekly release chapters.

I am now doomed to never experience the end of "Rebirth". They published the first 23 volumes in English, but then went bust with three to go. And in the time it would take to acquire a sufficient grasp of Korean to interpret the remaining volumes, they'd surely be gome from all but the most esoteric enthusiast comic-shops in Seoul, a good nine thousand kilometres from me.

You don't have time for never-ending slew of awesomeness upon awesomeness pages of awesome? If you're a fan of printed books over their film adaptations, then yes you'll enjoy manga/comics. Otherwise, instead watch the shortened/condensed video format for a brevity of awesomeness.

But yes, it is torturous to follow Berserk when the publication is released monthly

The anime was good, but if you have already read the manga, you would think the anime was like comparing toilet water to the finest coffee. Much more importantly, the series draws on pretty deep and wide and far ranging themes and for the manga to properly develop them all would take another 20 years and 400 chapters.

So I decided to read the manga (actually buy them). It was almost as good at the beginning, but then the story took another route.

Then the author went on some kind of acid trip, derailed the story completely and well I suppose there was just no end...

On a similar topic, if you want to watch Akira, well the books are much better (but don't get the version of the books that's based on the movie).

1) the manga was not completed before they decided to make an anime out of it, resulting in new and poorly conceived endings being invented by the studio guys.

2) the anime had to fit a season of 13 episodes. this results in some anime that 'naturally' fits 13 episodes being taut and well paced; while some anime that should have been made into 8 episodes turning into 8 well paced episodes and 5 filler episodes where nothing really goes on; while in some cases the anime is truncated halfway because the studio originally planned 2 seasons but the second season was shelved so you never get a real ending; and in other cases the first season is great and the second season sucks because the manga would only have fit 6 remaining episodes in the second season so the studio had to invent 7 episodes of pure filler.

Having plenty of disappointments in anime, I feel terribly sad for the authors and makers. They are often incredibly smart and talented people and it is horrible for them when their hard work (which pays little) gets mangled and mistranslated and turned into parodies by censors and uptight studio executives and the like.

OK, maybe I'm just assuming (forgive my assumptions), but based on your name chances are you are somewhere in the Middle East abdulmuhsee. Well, anime/ manga are quite well known in the Mideast, but very, very severely cut and edited and deliberately mis-translated to suit the demands of religious censors. So unless you are watching something you downloaded directly from other fans, chances are you're looking at something distorted.

Of course, there is also the notorious white-washing of all Asian cultural products in the United States. Hollywood (the media arm of an unholy alliance between the Elders of Zion and the Ku Klux Klan) really hates Asians and will do all it can, bending over backwards 360 degrees and twisting entire plots and rewriting the script completely if they can, just to make sure no Asian male faces get into their final cut. So when you see 'anime' produced or imported by some Western studio, you can take it for granted that it's gone through plenty of censorship and distortion also.

He is definitely tired of Berserk with his recent release schedule of a couple of chapters every year. But is it really a good idea of him to commit to a small series since writing Berserk almost killed him? Considering his current rate, we probably won't see the new chapter of Berserker till 2015.
