I was wondering where I could buy springs for cherry switches. I want around 90 cherry mx black springs to make my blue board have "ghetto greens" and I was wondering what website people buy them from (if there is even a website)
-
Do you care if they are new, old, vintage or somewhere in between?
-
Sherryton... He gotz all dem springs.. in all sorts of weights.
-
I guess I would prefer new or newish springs.
So, just so I am clear, when you make ghetto greens out of blues with black switches, the only thing that is ghetto about it is the fact that you are saving money and the top part is still blue right? It is still identical to greens function and feel wise, right?
-
I wouldn't call it identical but that's my opinion.

ah... I'm actually not sure whether the GHETTO refers to saving money or "Ghetto-Black-Gangstaz".. Perhaps some elders could weigh in on this..
But yea.. Ghetto Green is black spring with Blue stem.. Some people also use clear springs.. but I thought they were the same...

According to the measurements rknize did (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46449.0), black and green should have the same spring, and clears a slightly different one. So blues with a black spring should feel the same as greens.

Hrrrmmm... I didn't know that Clear springs were slightly "more stiff" than black springs...
-
Yes they are, the clears have a stiffer spring than the blacks. I know, i recently tested them both :D
(With that, i mean i tested both - under the blue stems). I like the black springs better, the first are tiring to the hands.

Op if you want a spring that feels like the black one, then contact Sherry and tell him you need a pack of 80g Korean springs. Take my word for it they feel like blacks, sherry Originative store website is been down for almost a week so contact him directly.

Green/white DO NOT have the same spring as black, they have the same 80cN spring as grey according to official Cherry MX data sheet.
I think the ghetto term come from ghetto rigged, as in make from common items. Back a few years ago red, green were very hard or much more expensive to get. So people started making the closest thing they could to them with the more easily available switch pieces.

Interesting! It means i wouldn't like true greens ... :)
