So what do you guys think handles better, looks better and ultimately provides the most fun?
-
let me channel my inner ming and say.
get a fiat 500 abarth and be happy.
(i want to get an frs/brz next year)
-
at autocross the s2000 looked good, but the turbo miata took the cake in terms of fun. A normal miata is great, too.
I'll let the real car guys chime in now.
miata has great headroom too.
-
Dat miata is so happy to have you inside it.
IMO, drive them.
-
I wish I was able to drive them all lol. Or own for that matter. But sadly it's rather difficult to find one of these that a weren't owned by some 16 year old idiot throwing in turbos and ruining the cars. Also hard to find a manual car in Miami is kinda tough lol.
-
Out of that list I'd say the Miata would be the most fun.
Aesthetics wise none of them matches the Saturn Sky Redline

lol
-
S2000's are nice in white with a widekit - saw one a few days ago
Not a ban of the FR-S - I think they are called 86's here, wheels look poo and the rear is a bit tryhard with a big wing
Miata's look so happy - I'd go that one. or a RX7 anyday
-
If I had to get one of the three I guess I'd go with the Subaru version BRZ, or one of the last models of the S2000 and shop for a used Spoon Sports hardtop.
The Honda is probably a more fun car to drive with that high revving motor, but obviously you can only buy it used.
-
The inner child in me wants to sell my Allroad and buy a FR-S.
-
well have him pull out and go car shopping!
-
Either buy more keyboards or cars.... I need money..
-
**** keyboards buy car
wait no. don't have sex with keyboards.
-
Miata, only if it has Blaupunkt... (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-033.gif)
-
The fr-s appears to be trying too hard, like a rice rocket
So of the three, miata, though the looks seem dated.
How about an used boxster?
-
Nissan 370Z, saving up for one myself
[attach=1]
-
Would suggest a z3. ^^
-
It's not a bad car but I really like the how light the cars I listed lol.
-
FRS... but I am very biased owning its older brother.
storage/room wise miata loses
s2000 has slightly more room but I wouldn't want a convertible & 0 option of back seat. Not that the FRS has much of one either. More of an 'insurance seat', speaking of which insurance rates could come into account as well.
& are we talking used or new? I'm right there with you on curb-weight
-
Out of those 3, the best looking is the brz. Don't know them enough to compare them technically.
-
Hnnng

That's sexy.
-
I want an FR-S out of those three listed in OP.
I even use it in Gran Turismo 5, the only place I can actually afford to purchase a tonne of cars and drive around with my wheel xD
-
I used to be a boy racer and I don't care much about the look. I started with the Subaru WRX platform and later ended up with the STi's to enjoy the track.
Between these 3 cars (assuming my numbers are good and you are not talking about tuned racers) to me Power to Weight ratio (PtW) it what would make me chose.
PtW ratio
S2000 2756lb 247hp 0.0896
brz 2762lbs 200hp 0.0724
miata 2440lbs 142hp 0.0582
Edit - that table looks ugly. Can someone explain to me how to use the table format?
As it was said above, I've seen properly tuned Miata schooling $100K+ sports car.
The s2000 is dead, the Miata is still going strong and the BRZ is the new kid on the block.
My 2c
Get a old but well maintain Miata... (from Dady's girl who never beat it) put some extra $$$ to tune it and you will have a more reliable car than the s2000 that can beat the BRZ any day for much less $$$

<-- miata junkie

Why is the Alfa Romeo Spyder not here?

Why is the Alfa Romeo Spyder not here?
Because he doesn't live in Italy or any other Euro state?

Forgot to look at that. :( May I suggest a pre 1993 Alfa? The legal imports.

Test drove a scion frs as I was interested in buying one. It handles great, I'm looking forward to owning one when I don't live in an apt with overcrowded parking spots (also monies)

ive been meaning to test drive one (or brz) since i want to purchase one middle of next year. that or a wrx whichever is easiest on my pocket.
but im lazy and i feel bad leading the car salesmen on knowing im not buying it any time soon
-
NA Miata FTW. Lightest of the bunch and responds well to tuning. Also, how can you not love that face?

Awwww.....

My S2000 was near the top of favorites In a lifetime of owning fun cars. So neutral. And the scream at 9000 rpm is incredible. The other two our fun balanced cars, but less intense.
-
S2000! My mother in law has a miata though and I love how low it sits!
-
My buddy has an s2000 with a hardtop. Its sick as ****
-
All 3 are great cars, but with different feel.
Listed in the order of fun:
Miata: There is a reason it is still around with minimal changes other than updated looks/safety/engine size. This car is a riot to drive and is equally good as a daily driver. Not the best choice if dealing with poor weather (snow) as the car has minimal insulation even with a hard top. There are a ton of parts to change the car to your personal tastes. Lots of good cheap mods to make it even more fun. Cheap. I personally love the original NA roadsters.
Great forum: clubroadster.net
S2000: First and second gen are both great cars but with different character. V1 is stiff and hard edged. V2 is a little more laid back and better for Daily driver. Tons of parts available. Honda reliability and resale value (also makes them a little more expensive). Watch for abused cars - tons of salvaged titles. These are great weekend cars and driving them at 8/10 or higher is addicting (especially with an intake and quality exhaust).
FRS/BRZ: These are fun cars and there is more stuff for them every day. IMO, it should never leave the dealer without suspension and wheels, the stock setup ruins the car for me. One note is that the interior is quite snug. I am 5/10 185lbs. and it feels cramped to me. Decent power. Stock setup is moderate understeer (to keep idiots from looping out on fwy on ramps). Once the suspension is dialed and good wheels/tires are on, the setup goes to neutral with power oversteer - much more fun to drive. ECU flash to E85 brings better throttle response and about 25rwhp. Combined with an exhaust, this is a great weekend car. My ex-roommate has taken his to full track car - Coilovers, 18x10 wheels with 275 rubber front and rear, E85, Supercharger, custom 3" exhaust, upgraded clutch, AP brakes front and rear, solid mounts for engine/trans/subframe/suspension. His car is a riot on the street, but would not be good for a daily driver due to all the solid mounts and the way the rear end steps out even at partial throttle if the tires are cold.
Not sure if this helped, but at least it helps you narrow your search down. I would personally buy the Miata as it is cheap and fun, and you can make it yours easily.

I think I'm the only one here who would suggest a FRS. But that being said I haven't driven either of the other ones.
Honestly if you are looking at the FRS get the Subaru equivalent the BRZ, more features on the inside. But I am biased as I was looking at buying one of these a year or so ago, but the timing wasn't right and that car would suck with winters here in Chicago.
-
Older Miatas are cheap enough, that if you can afford any of the others, you can probably afford to buy an older Miata to make into a weekend car built how you like. A it only takes a few thousand you have a spectacular little toy.
These are probably some of the best bang for the buck cars in existence. Just beware, they do not like tall people without a little work. If you are over 5'8" or have a long body, you will need to address this or you will be staring at the windshield header.

I didn't even think of that. The one I drove was an SCCA solo car with a race bucket that was basically on the floor (I could barely see the cones on the course). The later gen car I drove was fine, but I believe they are a little bigger than the original.
-
The frs is fun to drive, but its too awkward inside to be a daily driver imo. At 6'2 225lbs I dont fit in the seat and the shifter is too far forward for me to reach.
-
That's a very good question Hunterangel.
Well for the most fun you're going to need VTEC
The Miata doesn't have VTEC
Honda has VTEC
