WHat's the difference between pbb and plate mounted?

$0.49 a switch when you order 100. AND free shipping! That's a really good deal.  :thumb:

Note: these are all PCB-mounted MX Clear switches.

WHat's the difference between pbb and plate mounted?

PCB mounted had two little stems to secure the switch to the PCB  and plate mount does not. If you need plate mount, you can just cut off the stems on PCB mount and they will work.

That's really good!  I should probably grab a set... I love stock clears.
edit: in for a pack!

All I can say is, they better have 'em when my next paycheck rolls around. Those are going on my Ergodox -- oh wait (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=537), MK has the PCBs for that, too!

Just need a case from somewhere and I can quit this silly forum.

I had a question about this as well.

So both PCB and plate mounted mx switches will have the two through hole switch connectors which get soldered to the PCB.  Yes?  The PCB mounted switches have two additional plastic tabs which help hold the switch to the PCB as well as two additional metal prongs which would be through hole soldered to the PCB as well, but do not serve as a connection point, but serve the purpose of helping hold the switch to the plate on as well?

Here is an image I found.  Am I in the right ballpark here?

Yes, you are correct.  You can mount these switches onto a PCB as is or you can snip off or trim the plastic pointy things at the bottom and mount them to a plate.

There are 2 connectors on the plate mounted but 6 on the pcb mounted (two of which are plastic).  What are the other two metal prongs for on the pcb mounted switch?  I was guessing they got soldered onto the pcb, but that was just a guess.

Amoritize that over a hundred, and it gets less painful per switch?

Yea, but I already have 200 vintage blacks that I have yet to use (have plans for them, but on the long run). I just wanted to get a few to try them before going for 100.

Those are diodes inserted into the switch, I think.  They are not a feature of a pcb-mounted switch.  Plate-mounted switches have holes for those diodes as well.

Here's someone's photograph of those diodes inside the switches

You can pull them out, but it is an annoying process, from the comments I've read.

I am in Montreal, so if you want to split shipping, I would be willing to place an order and split the shipping with you.

For international people, here's an answer I got from mechanicalkeyboard concerning the shipping for the switches :

Thank you for your inquiry regarding international shipping. Our shipping rates are based on shipping out of country using USPS Priority shipping. This shipping brings the most value for our customers as far as speed and keeping items intact and undamaged. If you would like us to send it to you using the cheaper route that is not so kind to items, via USPS First Class Int'l mail, we need to complete the transaction using a paypal invoice that we will email you. Should you prefer the paypal invoice route, we will need the following information from you:

- Full billing and shipping address: both addresses must match. We cannot bill to one and ship to another internationally.
- Your preferred email address (whether this email, or another) and phone number in order to send you a full paypal invoice for the item(s) you wish to order.

Keep in mind that the shipping we charge does not include any imports/customs fees that may be imposed by your country/province. Once we receive the requested information, we will then do what it takes to make it happen for you.

Thanks for choosing Mechanical Keyboards,

Oh yes, I should update!  I received my switches very quickly.  They have no diodes in them and are just standard PCB-mounted variety (so you can trim the plastic pieces at the bottom and plate-mount if you'd like.)  Came packed really well in a sturdy box  :thumb:

Received mine. I was thinking, a set of 110 (like the Matias switches are) would probably be better, to at least fill a fullsize keyboard. Though, TBH, it seems most people are doing TKL or less these days anyway, so...

Actually I had not considered I really need at least 104 assuming they all work and function properly....oh well I've some others I can add in to these 100.

I emailed them and they should be changing the 100 pack to 110 pack now if only I had a time machine.....

Hi Dorkvader

I'm not quite understanding what you had to do.

What is the purpose of a diode?

Does it have anything to do with LEDs?

And what about LED keyboards? Do they use different kinds of cherry switches with holes for you to insert the LEDs?

I had to put diodes back in the switches for my kmac and phantom, and it was really annoying.

Diodes are for actual switches to provide NKRO, as far as I know.  Resistors are what you add when you install LEDs to get to proper voltage for light intensity.  Cherry switches are the same--just that the PCB kind has 2 extra pins made of plastic at the bottom for extra support when inserted directly into a PCB as opposed to plate first, then PCB.

Now I just need to get a case.

for the KMAC, I had to put the NKRO diodes back in the switches. I mistyped, and did it for the ergoDOX not the phantom

LED's are also diodes that are almost always used for indication or illumination (lighting) purposes, but can also be sued for other things, like Specialty CCS (Constant Current Sources)
