Current Price = $120
OK all. This is NOT an auction. It is a sale and this is the first CC I have ever sold. I am doing this to test the waters of an idea I had. It will seem like an odd method at first but give it some thought. I welcome your feedback, both negative and positive, just be nice about it. Since this is a test ALL of the money will be donated to Geekhack.
Here is the concept. This sale will start tomorrow, 10/24/2013 at 10:00PM EST. The starting price will be $200, I know, very high, somewhat ridiculous, but I want to see how this works. Every two days the sale price will go down by $20, meaning on 10/26/2013 at 10:00PM EST the price will be $180, on 10/28/3013 at 10:00PM EST the price will be $160, at 10/30/3013 at 10:00PM EST the price will be $140 ... and so forth. There will be a minimum price of $100. It will not go below that price. I will ship world wide but shipping is not included nor am I responsible for items lost in the mail. All purchases are to be made publically by posting here, in the thread. We will use the post time as the official time.
While I personally see no problem with sale threads being locked and only accepting PM's, and would probably do these that way if this works out, I want to keep the thread open for feedback.
Here is the item ...

Dutch Auction.... Fun...
-
Interesting concept and really great to see the money going to GH.
-
An interesting idea.
Although like this it will go to whoever has the most disposable income and sees this thread first, before the price drops to something others can afford.
Which, actually, is not too different from a normal auction, where someone will bid what they can afford, and then someone else with more disposable income comes in afterwards and puts a large bid on.
At least this method sets a maximum price, although I will be surprised if the price actually drops to your minimum price.
GLW(S/A)!

Yeah, in reality it is really just another form of maximizing your return by pitting the interested members against each other.
-
Since you asked for opinions:

Dutch Auction.... Fun...
L4yercake is right, I don't think you should convince yourself it isn't. A Dutch descending auction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_auction) is an auction, and not really different from the first-price auctions that we usually see here already.
Theoretically, the bidding strategy and results of this auction are equivalent to those in a sealed first-price auction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealed_first-price_auction).

So what you're saying is, we all have to work together and hold out until the price is $20?

He said minimum price is $100.

There will be a minimum price of $100. It will not go below that price.
jc says like that sir
edit: Rowdy faster than me :))

Although this is well intentioned for GH, more could be raised by doing a raffle. The recent one done by BunnyLake was a very good example of that.
-
Well ****. I really want a HO to go with my 60% Nostalgia set when I get it, but I don't have $200...
Must. Resist.
-
I'll sell you my Nostalgia Windows key for only $90.

Must. Resist.
Given your current avatar, I'd have to say that resistance is futile!
I would also like this to complement my HO Toast, but ...

Sale had started.
-
Really cool idea, great work bro
Good luck with it all!
-
I like this idea a lot, interested in seeing how it goes.

Well we shall see how well I fare as the price drops. I very well might be assimilated.

-
And let the second tier commence ...

Just wait until it gets to 100 $ and I will buy it guys. Deal? :P

on 10/28/3013 at 10:00PM EST the price will be $160
Do we really have to wait 1000 years for this? Some of us might lose interest by then... :P

I think this is actually a psychological experiment/mind game ;)

It's actually thinking economically.
By then, with the inflation rates and all, Clacks will be worth like $16,000.
Unless we abolish our monetary system by the 22nd century (like is predicted in Star Trek), then they'd be worth nothing.
-
Price update, now $160. Sorry for being a little late but the schedule is in the OP.

I thought you people would have bought it at the first price o-o

It was a little high for a HO.
-
WAYYY too high for a HO. that was the price for the most expensive night owl I saw.
-
Probably why John started so high - above what people would normally pay, to see how quickly someone buys it as the price gradually drops.

Exactly. If I list it at a fair price and someone buys it the first minute there is no drama and we all know gh is all about the drama.

Well, there are other ways to sell without drama and at a fair price. I didn't see any drama in my HO sale thread.

Price update, late again. Tomorrow night at 10:00PM EST it will go down to $120. Getting to be a pretty good deal now guys. Time to move.
