idk..... 195...... hmmm........  given that the advantage isn't huge over a regular 840.... i've always thought it to be a hard sell....

SSDs really need more power.... but mobile is just not pushing it enough....

$177.73 & FREE Shipping on Amazon for the EVO version.  It's a little slower than the PRO and may not last as long, but EVO has rapid mode which allows up to 2.5x faster performance while using some RAM.

You'll be waiting till the end of time.  SSD is here to stay and with every new model release the prices will stay high.

I suppose eventually the 1TB models will drop in price and that would be worth buying.

The 960GB Crucial M500 can be had for $499 right now. I bought mine at launch for its $600 SRP and have not regretted it for one second. It's one of the best hardware purchases I've ever made.

Edit: As I wrote the original reply, I double checked Amazon and the drive is now $499 (it was $550 a couple days ago). The 240 GB model is $149, which is IMO, a far better value than the Samsung.

The Crucial is also nowhere near as good of an SSD as the Samsung.  It may be a better value for storage space, but you're basically  looking at the difference between an old 5400RPM and a modern 7200RPM or even 10k HDD.

It all depends on how you use it, however will most users notice the 840's superior write speeds outside of, say, installing an operating system? I will agree with you on the smaller capacity drives. The 120 GB M500 is garbage, but IMO, outside of power users, there's not enough of a difference between the two to justify the Samsung's higher price. To dismiss the M500 entirely as "nowhere near as good" is pure exaggeration.

I bought the Samsung 830 250Gb a year or two ago for $160, and it has been the biggest improvement I've ever made to my PC.

The 960 GB Crucial M500 is exactly the drive I had been wanting for years: nearly 1 TB of reasonably affordable SSD storage. It was the perfect upgrade for my MacBook Pro. It gives me plenty of room for the media and games that I use in my dual-boot OS X/Windows environment while still allowing access to the optical drive, which is something I've been using quite a bit recently.

Man, don't wait to get an ssd. It's really a revolution. And you don't need a 1tb ssd. If you don't need much space (like I do), get a 120-250g, if you need more space, get a 120-250g ssd and a normal disk for your big data.

Having you os and apps on ssd is really awesome!
