I figured I should start posting since I've been interested in mechanical keyboards for a while. Mainly due to trying to keep costs low I ended up initially with a Razer Blackwidow a few years ago and it served me well, though I hated the flashiness and shininess of the board. I recently moved to the Vancouver area and just ordered a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid (again, funds were part of the decision, but it seems like a great board if it really is very similar to Filco), again with Cherry MX Blue keys (mainly for writing). I really want to try a Topre but can't commit to that kind of price.. Maybe some day. Even in the past few years while I stopped paying attention to mechanical keyboards I realized mechanical keyboards must have really had an upsurge in popularity--a lot more variety now and also cheaper prices (even for Topres!). So, maybe in a year or two I can try a 55G Topre (most curious about this because I love the tactile feel of the blues and hear the 55G topres are better for that..).
Anyways, now that I've bought a relatively cheap keyboard, I may try to create a unicorn vomit keyboard after the keycaps on the CM start getting shiny.. Or something fun anyways. I feel like this could be a very expensive hobby and I already have a few of those... :)

Hi! I'm also from Vancouver. Give me a shout if you're ever interested in a trade/purchase :) ; mech keyboards are a korean/american world, the rest of us need to help each other (and australia) out as much as possible :(
you're doing it wrong :p you need to get the vomit board RIGHT NOW. because you can :)

Whoa, guess what I am in Vancouver too!
The Quickfire is a great start. I know because that's how I started a year and half ago :)
Two days ago I put an order for HHKB from EliteKeyboard. It was not an easy decision, but boy I am excited.
If we hold a Vancouver GH meetup, I would love to bring it so anyone who's curious can try it.

Do you know why mechs are so popular amongst Koreans? I'm a Korean by ethnicity but was not aware of the trend until I discovered GH.

Thank you everyone!! I am totally excited to trick out the Quickfire Rapid soon. Also my family is in Korea so if I ever figure out something I need I suppose I may be able to get some assistance getting ahold of a keyboard. I was actually just visiting a month ago but wasn't spazzing out about keyboards at the time so I had no idea.. if only I were there in person now to go visit some of the big electronic malls.
