Title: KBT Pure function key scan codes
Post by: synerr on Tue, 29 October 2013, 12:43:02
Firstly, despite my age, I am new to proper keyboards - please be gentle :-)

I have a ""need"" to buy a compact keyboard for carrying around.  This should serve two purposes:
1) be more portable than my kinesis contoured
2) have a 'normal' layout so I don't get stuck to the kinesis layout alone
[ Additionally I want it to be white, PBT keycaps and and with multi coloured lettering but that is a story for another day ]

So I naturally started looking at tenkeyless options and more compact such as the KBT Pure.  If I understand correctly to achieve, say, F2 I need to press Fn->2.  Will this translate to a Fn scan code followed by the scan code for 2 or is some translation done natively on the keyboard and just a single F2 scan code sent to the host?

The translation is done by the keyboard controller - normally every FN layer works that way.

The latter. Pressing the Fn key does not register anything software side.
