Praise be Sega!

Quote
S-C-R-E-A-M! Sega has sprung a surprise release of The Typing of the Dead: Overkill on Steam. Available half-off for $10 through November 1, the game fuses the House of the Dead series with a typing tutor. A typing tutor that teaches you that if you don't learn to write 60 WPM you're going to be zombie chow.

This typing tutor also comes with a "full and faithful port" of the original PS3 edition of House of the Dead. There are also plans to add a two-player co-op multiplayer "shortly after launch as free DLC." The game will go up to its regular price of $20 after Halloween.

This should be great.

We should do some co-op stuff with this! See who's fastest by who takes all the points. :P

It needs you to type more than 60 words a minute? Even with my nerve damage in my right arm, I still type faster than that. Still, it sounds oddly like fun, despite how typing tutors usually are the exact opposite.

It isn't a typing tutor in the traditional sense. It's a port of House of the Dead: Overkill, except instead of pointing plastic guns at the screen to shoot stuff, you type bullets into them.

basically, it's a successor to the original Typing of the Dead, which was a port of House of the Dead 2 to the Dreamcast which used a keyboard instead of a light gun.

dude review please... how long is the game.... relative to the "first TOTD"... (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/52b44be5.gif)

I felt uber raped by a few recent steam purchases, so I just want to make sure for this..

Well, its a port of House of the Dead: Overkill for the PS3 to the PC. It includes this full version too, you can switch between the regular version and the Typing of the Dead version.
Seems like 7 missions. If my memory is correct thats about the same as the original, they are a fair bit longer.
If you're looking for a review just look up reviews for that PS3 game. I don't think there would be that many changes apart from it of-course being played with a keyboard and stuff.

Multi-player support seems to be coming in the future, as well as DLC vocabularies. (I really want to play this with friends.)

It includes online leader boards and all that jazz for showing off your typing skills. ;)

Seems like 1 guy is #1 on all of them right now. 'I am a hero not a deserter' ._.

Btw, 20% cheaper on GMG: http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/nl/en/pc/games/action/typing-of-the-dead-overkill/

Was cheaper for me compared to steam, might depend on area.

It does indeed run at 60fps, capped at 60 though, not higher.
