Title: Deck Francium for sell on Ebay!!!!
Post by: BucklingSpring on Sat, 02 November 2013, 10:05:07
Holly Molly look what I found!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/World-Best-Desk-francium-CBL-87-LED-Clic-Type-Blackit-keyboard-/141083715409?pt=Keyboard_Mice_Bundles&hash=item20d93ea751 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/World-Best-Desk-francium-CBL-87-LED-Clic-Type-Blackit-keyboard-/141083715409?pt=Keyboard_Mice_Bundles&hash=item20d93ea751)

The site is Picture heavy - I'll grab some pics and post here.

What is funny is the typo -

DESK instead of DECK in the title - $188.00

Another seller got the brand right.... at $249.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Deck-Francium-CBL-87-Cherry-MX-BLACK-Backlit-LED-Mechanical-Keyboard-USB-Eng-/321233370678?pt=Keyboard_Mice_Bundles&hash=item4acb003e36 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Deck-Francium-CBL-87-Cherry-MX-BLACK-Backlit-LED-Mechanical-Keyboard-USB-Eng-/321233370678?pt=Keyboard_Mice_Bundles&hash=item4acb003e36)

I just clicked purchase on a Korean Francium at $188...

Can't wait to see what the mailman will deliver. I'm planning to coat the Korean font or switch the keycaps with one of my other Decks.

There is something here that REALLY worries me.

Deck are known to have the BEST backlit friendly Keycaps by using PBT
(http://i48.tinypic.com/2zz7rx5.jpg)

The Francium artwork got THIS
[attachimg=1]

Which really looks like coated ABS.

I hope Deck didn't chose to go the Cheap way. Because quality keycap what made Deck so special to me.

Stay tuned

Per a translated Korean BBS - these are indeed doubleshot keycaps.

They would certainly have to be to compete against the backlit juggernaught Ducky.

Depends what you want to compete with.

I'd rather buy a more expensive Deck with PBT keycaps than a cheap Deck that is just as bad as the rest of the bunch.
$188-$249 is Deck high price tag territory at expected quality. This Francium better be justifying its price.

I already regret my purchase just because of this and seriously thinking of cancelling it.

Hmmm. This is troubling.

I've been pondering getting a Deck with PBTs because they look so good, but I'm really turned off by the typeface. Any idea if these are ever sold as a keycap set (no board)? Or better still, does anyone else make backlit PBT with a more professional-looking legend?

Big nerd I guess.

Are you refering to the extremely unstable radioactive element  #87 on the periodic table?

Wait a sec... 87 as in 87 keys... Jeez this concept didn't jump on my face at first glance.

TG3 which is Deck's mother company.

Folks here are buying dirt cheap used TG3 backlit on ebay just to scavenger the keys.

does anyone else make backlit PBT with a more professional-looking legend?

But it seems that Deck dropped one to get closer to the other.  :(

Researching TG3 Site, I found that the beloved Deck keycaps are also considered double shot. So I guess double shot doesn't exclude PBT.

The fellow seller at eBay was nice enough to cancel the order AFTER the money transfer. WHICH IS VERY VERY NICE. Meanwhile in his response he wrote that the keycaps on the Francium are the same PBT keycaps found in other Deck boards. This statement is puzzling because this is not what the artwork shows. Maybe I was a little quick to pull the plug.

Per a translated Korean BBS - these are indeed doubleshot keycaps.

They would certainly have to be to compete against the backlit juggernaught Ducky.

Just clicked Purchase on the Hassium.

I had to cheat a little, they don't offer any other shipping option than Australia  - I hope the store will be nice. I enter Australia, but added a note to change the Country in the shipping address and invoice extra shipping fees.

I wouldn't necessarily consider the older Deck keys true doubleshots, because it was a general area shot then painted over, not the character itself shot. Because the originals were painted over, it seems like they would wear out faster.

The wearing of the older design remain to be seen. My few years old Deck Legends are as ugly as they were NIB when I got them. Not a single trace of wearing.

Something I cannot say about my CM Storm Trigger that doesn't even has 1/10th of Deck`s life and already leaking light on the edges

That's the thing. Except for the spacebar, I don't.

I don't even use the Macro key shown on the picture.

I think Cooler Master uses self destructing biodegradable material. Which I find very noble of them. If all other garbages were made that way, the planet would be less polluted.

Although backlit in general is silly.. because you should never be typing in such dimly lit-situations anyway..

Hey everyone, I feel I should clarify some of the details in this thread.

1) Indeed there is a Deck Francium. We actually had some prototypes in the office. We did not announce it at the time because Deck was unsure if they would 'skip' over it in favour of another TKL model. I guess now that it's starting to appear here and there, there's no harm acknowledging it.

2) The US ANSI Deck Hassiums do use DS-PBT as seen in our picture. However, we have it on good accounts that the Korean versions of Hassium used ABS since the molding process could not be quickly / cheaply adapted to different fonts (i.e. non-deck font, Hangul layout). This may have changed, we are not experts in the Korean market so the only way to know for sure is if someone gets word from Deck or some gets their hands on one.

3) Ducky Shine key caps were not used in our experiment, the black 'outline' is the left-overs from the Mionix ABS which seeped onto the tissue. We did not use a Ducky Shine key cap in our tests but I doubt the result would be much different from the Mionix ABS since the material should be the same.

Any questions, let me know. I will do my best to answer.

The US is not our area of responsibility so I cannot tell you for sure. Having said that, our ANSI Franciums came with the same thick DS-PBT that the Hassiums have. So I have every reason to assume the answer will be yes.

I wouldn't necessarily consider the older Deck keys true doubleshots, because it was a general area shot then painted over, not the character itself shot. Because the originals were painted over, it seems like they would wear out faster.
dye-subbed over, not painted. Will outlast almost anything.

wow. OK. That is considerably more durable. However, it still is dyesubbed over, so it looks a little ugly with the slightly higher elevation.

Please excuse me. I wasn't thinking and I forgot that Dye-subbing, like Doubleshotting, adds no extra height to the key.

The United States layout should come with double-shot PBT keycaps.

The Deck Francium on eBay shows pictures of ABS Korean keycaps, whether it comes with PBT keycaps or ABS keycaps will be unknown until someone tries to find out.

Also, the original Deck keycaps were not just painted over. They were dye-sub PBT keycaps. One plastic piece was dye-subbed then glued onto the other plastic piece. They would still last much longer than Ducky, or any other ABS keycaps.

I just received very comforting information from someone at TG3.

"the plan is to have Francium and Hassium available in the US by Thanksgiving"

"Regarding the keycaps, some foreign models are using the cheaper lower quality keycaps. The ones that we will be selling are top of the line"

"We actually made a change from our old keycaps, but it is to an even higher quality. Instead of the PBT with dye sublimation, which resulted in light leakage as well as the “raised” edges, we are now using a true two-shot backlit PBT. A review of the keycaps we will be using is here: http://mechkb.tumblr.com/post/59664045773/our-stock-of-deck-hassiums-are-genuine-pbt-doubleshot"

I'm extremely happy to read this. Looks like Deck took the best and made it even better!

I can't wait to get one of each in my collection.

And the BIG news thread from Deck also gives prices and where to buy.

I have a very big hug to give to the mechkb.com folks in Australia who were holding a Francium for me and were welling to facilitate a shipping oversea. I now know it will be a lot easier to get it locally from Amazon.

So can someone explain to me what "Hassium" and "Francium" are? Besides just having the backlit board with pbt doubleshot keys, are these boards really good? How do they compare to the filco? Do they have costar or cherry stabilizers? What kind of profile do the keycaps have that come with these boards? I ask because I'm right about to buy a filco (or maybe a QFR) and a set of thick IMSTO keycaps to go along with it. I had given up on getting a nice backlit board because I really wanted good caps. If this thing is going to be available to order as soon as monday, its obviously worth waiting for. I'm just trying to figure out the details. Thanks!

Our boards use cherry stabilizers, and contoured keys, as opposed to the flat profile of the previous generation Deck.

Hassium is element 108, and Francium is element 87. The boards are supposed to be well built and sturdy, about the same as Filco, I'd surmise. IMSTO caps will definitely be better, but that's true for anything. Honestly, the Vortex keycaps are much better in my opinion, and they've got designs of double-shot PBT backlight-friendly keys on the way, with a less disgusting font. I just think that you'd hate looking at it, and if you're going to replace the keycaps there is no reason to get this board, considering that they aren't even offering Clears their boards (reference their recently started thread) and Filcos are definitely on par with quality and not nearly as overpriced.

This is so biased I don't even know where to begin.

Do you own either the Francium/Hassium that is being released out of the US?  It's supposed to have much better keycaps than the one out of Asia.  And since it's not released yet I'm curious how you can judge it being better/worse than others?

Vortex can eat a bag of ****s.  In the early days they screwed iMav several times, are terrible at communication, and have generally poor product.  One of their first keysets had a key that was incorrect (backslash pipe.)  Who the F*** does that?  As far as upcoming double shot set - who cares.

Finally, Filco is "definitely on par with quality and not nearl as over priced."  Again, do you own a Francium/Hassium to judge?  And why aren't you complaining that the Filco doesn't have Clears since it was your complaint about the Deck?

The more I read your post the more I think you are trolling or you work/sell for Vortex.

Yes the font isn't what you hoped for - boo hoo - go be butt hurt somewhere else.

Be angry if you'd like. Perhaps it's difficult for you to understand that someone can severely dislike a keyboard based on actually researching it and that people who don't like a keyboard don't have a hidden agenda.

I know exactly the keycaps used on the Francium/Hassium, and I know exactly that they are thin PBT DS, different from the Korean ABS. There seems to be a lot of repressed butthurt about Vortex from you, but their products are not overpriced, and they listen to the community, as can be seen by their recent creation of the inverted mod set and changing of fonts. I don't think that Deck has changed their font, ever. Obviously you don't care, because you're incredibly in love with the Deck. Kudos.

Of course this will be biased. The keyboard in my opinion is not worth it because I don't like the font and otherwise it seems overpriced for what you're getting. Perhaps you love it, that's great. Also, CM had a top-printed key instead of side-printed on their ISO Stealth, and people didn't make too much of an issue because the problem was fixed, something which can't be said about the Deck's font.

I also don't complain about the Filcos not having Clears because they've never offered them. The only appeal of a Deck to me was that they came with stock Clears, and perhaps Whites if I remember correctly. So in essence, they're offering the same product, without Clears, and with the same, controversial, shall we say, font. There's been no change besides the addition of the Francium and the removal of Clear switches.

I'm not really in the mood to argue with someone who accuses others of being butthurt, because I never blew $200+ dollars to get a keyboard with font uglier than Razer's.

How do you know they are thin?  Link/Source?

I never said their products were overpriced - I said they were crap.  As far as listening to the community most vendors have to plead and beg for information regarding product.  Why support someone who treats their vendors like they don't matter?

Per Deck:

Quote from: Deck
Prices on Amazon will range from $148 - $173 depending on which board selection, LED's and switch types.

So where are you getting this magical $200+ price from?  Now that it's being sold on Amazon there will probably be free shipping to boot.

If you don't want to get into an argument then stop spreading false information.  For the record I'm not - as you put it - in love with Deck.  I just think it's ignorant to bash a product that hasn't even been released yet - in this case the version being put out by Deck of Wisconsin.

One assumption I make even before owning those keyboard is about the keycaps.

They'r PBT doubleshots. Previous Deck's keycaps were also pbt but had flat profile.

Deck is claiming the new one are  better. For one the surface no longer shows the insert on top (sometime leaking light on the edges)
And they are now contoured. Finally they are still using the same durable material that has outlast any backlit keycaps the competition is trying to make.

So based on that, I don't think it is biased to say they will still have the best keycaps on the market.

Now for the board itself. The layout surely looks like Duckies. How does the built compares... We'll see their guts soon enough.
Deck boards were well made before. I don't expect anything less from them.

This is so biased I don't even know where to begin.

... a keyboard with font uglier than Razer's.

Without weighing in on the conversation, I've gotta tell you this got a laugh outta me. Not because of the dollar amount, but because it's my main issue with these caps, as beautiful as the board/caps are otherwise.

I have yet to find someone who likes Deck's font.

Deck's are to fonts what Buckley is to cough syrup "It Tastes Awful. And It Works." a slogan, which became, and still is, very successful.

Thin PBT? Are they using different caps in the US market to what they're currently shipping in Australia? The Deck Hassiums we have seem like thick PBT to me?

Also $200+ ? Are you referring to a previous line of keyboards or...?

I'm confused :|

I sort of like it, although I have to admit some letters (e.g. S) could look better.

However, I don't care about fonts too much in general.

BTW please, don't use top-posting.

A few people have expressed confusion about the double shot keycaps and where these are being sold. Please note ONLY THE US will be selling double shot keycaps. With your choice of with both Blue or White LED's and blue, red or brown switches.

We are in the process of working with distibutors, however through the 1st of the year we will only be selling on Amazon.
