Just gonna post this here as I doubt a majority of people on GH have read this:

Almost everyone on GH is a hobbyist, and should not be viewed a means to get what you want.

The terrifyingly honest part is I don't think people give a **** more than on a cursory or superficial level.
EDIT:
I'm going to rephrase that to some people. I thought about even going most, but that may be bitterness with how things have turned today.

I read that the other week when CC updated it and find it very interesting. The man is truly an artist!
-
awesome read! :thumb:
-
That was a neat read, except I don't think people care that much, which is unfortunate.
EDIT: I mean the people who buy/sell at crazy prices.

Thank you for posting this ekw. He really does address much of the debate that surrounds his work. It's sad that so many people just ignore his FAQ and story and ignore how he feels the market. His work is awesome and he wants it to be enjoyed by people, it's just sad that not everyone views it the same way.
It's sad thathis Toys-R-Us and street artist analogy is the part that's ignored the most. It's a wonder sometimes that he has the will and heart to keep making his work.

I tried to find it, and I think he said it at some point and I just don't remember, but why does clickclack not just sell to meet demand? I think it is something about art and exclusivity but fact of the matter is the majority of keys all come from molds, and the only reason to not keep making to meet demand is so some people can feel special while others envy them and feel like crap.
It would make more sense if the ones out of molds were mass produced for demand and limited sculpted keys were sold at a large mark up just like paintings when compared to prints or giclée. Not to mention this style would support Mr. Clickclack as an artist. Maybe his primary job allows him to do this only as a hobby but it has led to stuff like the clack therapy thread and this **** is unhealthy for some, and leads to financial problems with others....granted some are predisposed to being a packrat and/or lack self control in their lives for one reason or another.
If you are four feet away hand me my Toxic new legend Signature Plastics key back please (if you are done with it) :p

But at Toys R Us its not a drawing/lottery, and there are almost infinite supply of toys.
Also for example during black friday sales, people trample each other to get the super cheap item first, and some turn around and sell it right after. The company already profited from selling the item(they profit a smaller amount than regular) and they don't care if someone profits from it, they already made money from all the black Friday hype and sale.

I really want to see pictures of his work, he sounds like he does some awesome stuff.

Haha, I just unknowingly posted very similar/briefer things as OP and danielucf but shorter in the "PSA" thread. But agreed.

I agree with this. Have a mass made kind for the people who want a CC to enjoy CC's would benefit everyone. Then having exclusive ones would be there for people who want quality CCs like the ones we have right now
This is like the topre market. The leopold is cheaper made and cheaper priced topre, but at less quality, but still pretty good. The HHKB is of higher cost and quality, much like a custom made CC

Yes. And larger, please. His pictures are always so small...

It's in a thread somewhere he talked about it how when he first made those nobody wanted them, it's a magnet in case anyone didn't know.

That little blue stem is a magnet? Damn that's cool!
I wonder if CC ever randomly carved or painted a Girlshark over the last year :)

This is usually too expensive for someone who is making this art into a part time job. It is horridly time consuming... emphasis on horrid. The only thing I can say from my experience is that if anything he does shares similarities with my process and if he works alone there is significant set-up/break down of each session used to make caps.
Honestly I would love to apprentice under the guy and learn more techniques from someone as accomplished. It would be nice to think I have an understanding of how this all works. With that I could answer with certainty that this process can be taxing especially as a side project, but with a bunch of conjecture I can say a supply to meet the demand would halt color variation/complexity and a mediocre personal investment for the artist.
I could take a mold and contact a factory and order a whole bunch of reproductions. It would lose the entire... well it would become a lot more of a volatile situation. More of an investment than a work of art. As things stand I feel like what I'm doing is almost over-investing... but I still enjoy making each Bingecap.
Forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn. Some zombie kangaroo mentioned that I'm not CC, so I apologize for overstepping any boundaries with my assumptions on the subject.

Well that is indeed interesting! Who doesn't love magnets!

Didn't realize he had updated it. Will read later.

Have you guys checked out his under construction picture on his website? There's a pretty cool picture with some nice sketches there, I had a small immature laugh when I saw the sketch of a statue of a woman with exaggerated boobs. http://fxesc.com/

Hopefully something happens with that.

They are exaggerated?
Anyway, his site's been under construction for at least a year (since I joined, anyway).
He's way too busy (making keycaps and other things).
