Title: Caps-lock key doesn't bottom out.
Post by: Willy on Thu, 07 November 2013, 01:17:14
On my QFR, the caps-lock key feels and sounds as if it has o-rings on it.(mx blue) I took the keycap off, half expecting to see a damper or o-ring of some sort, but there is not. I don't remember it doing this when I got it.  The click sounds fine, the key operates fine, and the led lights up properly. Just stops about 0.5-1mm from bottom-out. Is it possible that there is some sort of debris inside the mechanism? Or is this some feature I'm unaware of?

- EDIT -

I put my 'A' key on the caps lock switch and it sounds fine, so I put my scroll lock key on it(it has the same led window) and it sounded fine. Manually pressing the switches with my finger, I could feel no difference. The difference is coming from the caps-lock keycap its self, but the keycap looks perfectly normal to the naked eye.

I've never heard of it but I'm sure it's possible somehow for debris to get in the switch. Since the QFR is plate mounted you'd have to desolder the switch and then open it up to investigate.

See if the LED is seated all the way into the switch. If not, it'll interfere with key travel.

I wonder if it is a malformed keycap, like one of the stems is at a very slight angle.  There is not much room for things to vary in this area, so 0.5mm out would make a huge difference.

Can you try a different caps lock keycap?
