I've gone through several bottles of sapphire, and off brand

i find sapphire over rated... it's just ahight...

After you add the tonic soda... it pretty much just tastes like the tonic soda..

I like it but wouldn't go wow.  IMHO there is no spirit that is out of this world.  A lot go in and out if fashion.  Heard a lot about patron for example, I took in a whiff and nearly threw up.

Free alcohol is my favorite alcohol :)

But it's never actually free, unless you steal it.

If you go to a party... there are expenses, the cost of travel, some labor (drink doesn't pour itself), and if you're drinking properly, there's also the bus-fare home...

So... yup.. free alcohol... very rare..

Edit: Can anyone recommend me some 100% Proof Vodka? Absolut Black was pretty good but not amazing.

It's very much real. I've drank literally hundreds of bottles of it. They've changed their value range branding to this now though:

True.

It depends on the weather and occassion, my preference is a large measure of Vodka, 3 large ice cubes and a wedge of lime.

I've never actually tried Absolut Black, I don't think, so I can't compare. I like Absolut generally though, and the only real criticism I can think someone could have with it is it could be considered overly bland (which others would consider smooth, depending on your preferences). I would say Stoli has more characteristic vodka flavour (even though vodka isn't meant to have a flavour), so in that respect you might prefer it. My two favourite vodkas are Russian Standard and Stoli, but I like them for completely different reasons. Russian Standard is incredibly easy to drink and is ideal when you just want to add alcohol to something, whilst Stoli is what I would consider a "classic" Russian vodka to taste like and I drink it the way I'd drink a decent gin,; e.g. on the rocks, in a martini, or with a mild mixer like tonic or soda water.

Probably the fact that the previous one could actually be used as a paint thinner, and such like.

And for the record, Asda is the British Walmart, on account of the fact they're owned by Walmart. :)

I'm from London so know tesco all too well just had never seen the spirits section.  Let's say that if you like fine spirits the same way as mechanical keyboards you would equate tesco value gin to a rubber dome keyboard you could pick up at the pound shop.

Beer, but not pilsners, lagers, or most ales (there are some exceptions).  Following that it's a decent tequila or clean whiskey, but usually tequila.

Why else do people drink?

The pure taste of it.  When I was younger YES I got drunk with mates down at the local pub, because when it's a lot of you that's plastered  - it's a lot of fun to be had  :thumb: .

But as you get older it's more to do with enjoying a fine taste of liquor you wouldn't normally drink with friends, relatives or the Mrs.  My fave's now are old-style Oaxaca and also Herradura Selección Suprema which is to die for, I don't waste a single drop of this with anyone.

In my coffin I will be clutching a bottle of this as I head off straight to Lucifer's abode  ;) .

I like to taste and savor alcohol, so I usually drink whiskey straight up. Generally I drink bourbon, but good Scotch can't be beat (and Irish whisky can be exceptional, too).

If I have to mix it, on the rocks with light soda water is the way to go.

I cannot understand why people drink vodka, it has little or no taste to me beyond the alcohol itself.

Gin used to be a favorite, but it does not taste as good anymore.

For a true "mixed" drink, I would probably select a really good margarita, on the rocks with no salt.

*   *   *   *   *

Having said that, I seldom drink anything but beer, but that is almost as close to a food as a drink.

And something on the order of a dry sherry is best for an aperitif.

To say something that hasn't been mentioned yet, I like amaretto on the rocks a lot.  Tastes delicious, has alcohol.

I also fancy gin, whiskey, vodka, beer, and wine, in no particular order.  Mostly depends on my mood.

It's good if you want to chug a few beers, because it tastes a lot like water.  It's not good if you want to savor and enjoy the beer.  It all depends on intent, as with most things that people feel strongly about.

If you like it, that's really all that matters. If someone else's preferences were to have any influence on what I like then then that would mean I'm a little insecure I think. Plus, water is very refreshing!!

Indeed.  But it does have ethanol.

So does gasoline. But I'm sure as hell not gonna try and drink it...

you're not an alcoholic.. so I wouldn't expect you to understand... (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/069.gif)

Jokes aside,, alcoholism is a very serious debilitating disorder.. stand firm against addiction.. (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/154218d4.gif)

Wasn't there a Philip Seymour Hoffman movie about huffing gasoline a few years ago? Boy was that depressing!

Vodka. My top choices are in the following order Żubrówka, Russian Standard Platinum, Luksusowa, Platinka, Starka, Sobieski.
I also like Unicum, Becherovka, Arak, and Limoncello. I seldom drink cocktails, but when I do I like White Russians, Moscow Mules, Mojitos, Cosmopolitans, and Birra Fresca (Menabrea (or if must Peroni), Campari, Cointreau with a twist lemon).
For wines I favor sweets from Georgia, Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Germany.
I also drink lots of beer, but it would take a long time to list all of my favorites. Most of them come from Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Czech, Slovakia, Estonia and Belgium.

Mixed, doin it up right: Margarita
Mixed, but lazy/low-key: Captain and Coke or Crown and Coke, sometimes Gin and 7-Up
All other times: Single Malt Scotch, Red Wine, or Ale

Never: Vodka, Tequila in anything but a Margarita

Here's a drink that's was pretty popular in asia a while back...

Red wine + Sprite....

I was blown away at a restaurant when this supposed "big shot" character ordered a 5000 yuan ($600usd) 8y to 1usd back then, red wine...   Then he popped open two cans of sprite and made a pitcher of it.... (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/th_118_.gif)

I think the only reason they were doing this was because their expenses could be put on the company account. I don't think anyone would waste their own money away like that...

they've cracked down on this sort of inane expenses only relatively recently..  though.. (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-007.gif)

Like professional athletes spraying each other with $100 bottles of champagne in the locker room after winning a game.

That disgusts me so much that I never want to watch sports at all.

The only beers I care for are Tennent's (preferred) and Carling, which oddly taste very, very similar, despite the former being Scottish and the latter originating from Canada (I think).

If you like Jagermeister you should try Unicum. Unfortunately it is quite hard to get in US as typically only Unicum-NEXT is available under the Zwack brand here. I don't like NEXT as much, it is sweeter.

Back in Boston it was always Bushmills vs Jameson. I think it's a Protestant vs Catholic thing.

Not really partial to a specific alcohol; when I was younger, I used to drink Fireball, but those young experiences generally make me cringe at the smell of it, or anything cinnamon-scented.

If we include shots, I usually get Liquid Cocaine (Jager and Goldschlager).

Soo many good drinks mentioned here.  I don't have nearly as vibrant a taste in comparison to some of you connoisseurs. I haven't heard of half of this stuff lol. Hennesy and Coke is my favourite. I'll get down on some 151 w malibu and a incredible hulk or two. Maybe some jaegarbombs. Beers are Yuengling when I'm cheap and Bluemoon when I'm not. I hope to get some recommendations for other craft beers or imported ones.

I don't have a single "drink." It really depends on my mood.

Right now I'm really enjoying milk stouts. Temptress is sooooo good.

Margaritas (I make a mean, mean, top-shelf margarita).
Jack and Coke
Bush Mills, water and ice.

Beer: I don't know... I think the Germans have us all beat here.

I'm more of a tequila man:

For the money, it's hard to beat Espolon.  $15-20 a bottle and it's pretty decent stuff, competing with stuff in the $40-75 a bottle range.  It may not be as complex as some of the super awesome stuff, but I rarely drink it straight.
