Title: G710 Logitech Question
Post by: giltyler on Sun, 10 November 2013, 15:13:16
I have acquired a new G710 keyboard and I pulled a key to look at the Cherry MX Brown and noticed a small thin black o ring and want to know if that is the same thing as an o ring mod?
Key Cap also seems flimsy

Except higher end boards (not that the G710+ isn't high end) such as the nighthawk, Shine 3, Keycool. And such. But yes that is the same thing as the o-ring mod.

I had a 710 keyboard and didn't like it. I ended up returning it. The key caps seem to look the same as the gigabyte osmium ones, minus the o ring.  I ended up changing the key caps on the osmium since i didn't like them either.

I had a G710+ for review and the G5 keycap came in broken (in order: G710, Tt Meka G-Unit, Metadot Das Keyboard (Costar), Corsair K70 and CM Storm Trigger.

I was quite dissapointed, but in the end I gave it a 7/10 grade, it's average, but it surely ain't a high-end keyboard, starting by the low-quality keycaps. Same can be said for the Tt Meka G-Unit (5/10) and Corsair K70 (8/10).

Aren't most backlit keys that quality?

those aren't off the shelf. ;P can't say I've ver seen them at bestbuy or a non-mech shop.

are the shine 3 keycaps better than the zero shine series?  cause the 2108s aren't anything special.

Nope, even though they're from the same place, the K70's are a bit better (not too much) and the CM Storm Trigger and Ducky Shine III keycaps are far better in terms of material and width.

The best buy in Aventura here in Miami has mechanical boards... Granted they are Razer, Logitech, and Corsair.
I haven't used the zero shine, but I think they are the same. But looking at the price point of it, it might be different. If you want I can post pictures of my caps.

Easiest way is to check if there's a mark left by the molding or not behind the keycaps of the Ducky Shine III and Shine Zero:

The Shine II had those because they're keycaps made by a Taiwanese vendor, his keycap tooling leaves that mark.

thanks, but I'm actually getting my shine 3 in about 3 weeks, so I'll do a RL feel test for myself.

Thanks for the input on the Caps, For something that retails at $149.99 (I only paid $109.06 out the door) I would have expected better key caps and a puller with some alternate keys
The Brown MX switches seem very nice though and the o rings make it quicker for me to use

Anyone know what size the o-rings are on the G710? WASD sells 0.2mm and 0.4mm. I'm guessing they're probably 0.2mm.

backlit keycaps are all kinda crappy (although deck has some pretty nice ones according to the vendors).

you're paying most of the money for the brand name and the customer support.

AFAICR they are the same as these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051XWXCE), that would be 0.4mm reduction.
