Title: Ducky Shine 3 TKL - Yellow LE just received
Post by: six7777 on Sun, 10 November 2013, 15:52:55
Just received my Ducky Shine 3 TKL - blue with white led.
First impression is good - the key feel doesn't seem as firm as the Shine 2 I have - it has sort of a more cushioned feel.

I was using a Keycool for the last 3-4 months - and like it quite a bit.

What's the question?

I'm planning on preordering the Yellow edition when it comes out or later. My only sadness is that because it's blank, I'm not going to be able to see the command keys. But Hardcore mode demands that I not have them.  :))

There is blank, and also laser engraved version.

I did see that. But it would take away from it, as I really like typing on blank keyboards. I might have put a mark on the front side of the key for the function layer, though.
Plus, purchase more blanks = producers possibly producing more blanks = good!

I have a question about these, how close is the Ducky to the Keycool? from a visual point of view I would have thought they were made in the same factory.

The Ducky feels quite a bit different IMO compared to the keycool - At least right now, I think I prefer the Keycool.

Sorry, deleted my question, wasn't sure where to post it.
I have posted on here but don't have enough posts to list my extra boards I don't use anymore -
Is ebay the only other place to sell them?

I just ordered the yellow with the engraved keys - (of course I didn't need it)

If the extra space bar is the one I am thinking of, they might have been available only in the first few batches.

Mine came with the additional spacebar (UK ISO). The F1, F5 and F8 keys control the delay/repeat rate.

I got mine for Christmas, and my parents only ordered it around 2 weeks before I got it, and I have the extra spacebar.

Fair enough - extra space bar with most of them then.

Although there was a keyboard not that long ago where there were some extra keycaps that only came with the first few batches ...

Or did I dream it?

Thinking of getting this myself.

How do you like the clicky sound of blues? Aren't they too much in terms of how loud they can get? I was going to get browns but then tried blues and browns side by side on a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate and liked the blues much more.

The clickiness of blues is no louder than the average mouse.

The sound from bottoming out is louder.

However the clicky feedback can be annoying to some people.

I like the clicky sound - but if I had to work around others, I could see it being annoying.
Received the yellow - that didn't come with an extra spacebar either - just 4 red keys, and a key puller.

By the way, the backlighting is NOT broken. They're off because they indicate repeat rate and delay. You can change so the keyboard doesn't display it, it should be in the manual somewhere.

FN+F9 should bring the lights back on the 6 keys. The lights are off on F2-F4, F6-F8 because it's indicating what repeat delay you're on. Same setting applies for your DS III TKL.

Caps and Scroll Lock will only light up when activated.

Nice keyboard. I considered getting it, but wasn't all for the yellow. Does the yellow everything (leds, caps, case) ever get like too bright(?) to look at?

I have received my Shine 3 Yellow Edition.

It is fantastic!

Now I have to dig out all these posts with hints about the function keys to change lighting modes (yes there is a manual, but so many keypresses described in such a short place).

The LEDs actually look slightly more orange than yellow to me.

In fact the whole keyboard has a slightly orange look to it, when compared with, say, SP yellow keycaps.

I just received my TKL Yellow Edition with black switches today.  First off I love the feel of the keyboard.  The PBT keycaps are amazing (my first keyboard with PBT).  They are really thick and feel amazing.  Gaming is great with the black switches so far.  I think reds would be too soft for my taste.  The yellow is sort of yellow-orange not banana yellow.  I really can't get over how nice the lighting modes.  Most are really for show and not really all that usable.  You can do per key lighting which would be great for gaming and the snake mode is just really cool looking.   I have the version with lettering, although the lettering is really not visible anyway.  Only real minus I can see is the red wasd set the keyboard came with appear to be ABS and not PBT and quite a bit thinner than the stock keys.  I most likely won't be using them.   This is also my first tenkeyless board.  I really like the size.  I don't think I would ever want anything smaller.

First thing you should do when getting any of the Shines is update the firmware.  I had a weird issue where the keyboard was hyper sensitive and typing multiple letters and spaces etc when first hooked in.  The firmware update fixed the issue.  I am really impressed with the overall quality of this board.  I will be purchasing more ducky boards in the future.  I will probably get one of the PBT full size for work with brown switches.  I have a number pad with blues, but I find it a tad loud for work.

Welcome to Geekhack!

We have identical keyboards :)

I did not have any chattering issues with mine.

Thanks!  I also did a windows troubleshoot on the device, after the firmware update it worked great except it wouldn't hold keystrokes.  After the troubleshoot, problem solved.

I have a Saitek X52 HOTAS with blue led sitting next to it, looks ausome with the yellow LED.  I also turned the spacebar to blue LED.  When the snake mode is on my setup looks like an 80's spaceship cockpit...
