Title: Mechanical Keyboard Suggestions
Post by: Xiamath on Tue, 12 November 2013, 06:40:48
Hi all, this is my first post here :)

I decided to buy a new keyboard (i am currently using a Logitech G110) but i'm having a hard time deciding which one.

The main features i'm looking for are:
-ISO Layout (Italian pref but everything is fine)
-Brown Switches
-Backlighting
-TKL
-PS/2 pref, is the difference between USB and PS/2 noticeable if i'm using only a USB mouse with the keyboard (lag wise)?

I would like to spend less than €150 including shipping costs to Italy.

I haven't found any keyboard with all these features yet, therefore i've 2 options in mind
-Ducky, any model with backlighting is fine, but it doesn't support PS/2 and i'm not sure if it is available with ISO layout
-CM Storm QFR, but it hasn't backlighting

Help me pls!

I'm probably going to get shoot for this, lol, but the backlighting part would have limit your choices to just a few... So may I suggest Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth? :)

I don't know about it, i've only read bad things about Razer but i could take it into consideration.
Anyway if a Ducky with backlighting isn't available with ISO layout i think my only option is buying one without backlighting :(

CM Storm Quickfire Rapid ISO - UK layout:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cooler-master-cm-storm-quickfire-rapid-mechanical-cherry-brown-mx-gaming-keyboard-usb

The pictures show ANSI layout, but the product code is correct for ISO layout. It has full backlighting, ISO layout, TKL, Brown switches and PS/2 with full NKRO. And it's affordable :D

The only bad things about Razer is the ABS keycaps but that is to be expected if you want backlighting. The other thing is the matte case. Otherwise it's really a good board especially the 2013 edition. They have improved on a lot of feedback.

QFR doesn't have backlighting, anyway i think this will be my choice if i don't find a Ducky.
P.S. this site ships only to UK (http://www.scan.co.uk/information/delivery.aspx)

Yep, it seems that the 2013 version is ok anyway i just find out that it's not TKL, for the TKL version i should buy the Tournament Version which has no backlighting and is available only with US layout (there would still no point in buying it even if it had ISO layout, i think that QFR is better and probably costs less).

Ducky Shine 3 tkl?

Does it exist with ISO layout?
If it does could you pm me where i can buy it?

Oops, sorry, my bad. You're right, no backlighting on the QFR, but it's a great board for the price.

Ducky Shine 3 TKL is ANSI only as far as I can find. Another pair of options, the WASD V2 and Keycool 87 are also backlit, but unfortunately also ANSI.

However the Ducky Shine II TKL has a Nordic ISO option! If you can still find one...

Another option could be this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00C67C79C/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1384336529&sr=1-1&keywords=Cooler+Master

If you can handle the keypad instead of arrows and edits (they can function as arrows and edits too, but the edits are one row down). It has full backlighting (can set brightness), brown switches, UK ISO layout, NKRO over USB, good price.

It seems a good option, the keypad instead of the arrow and edit keys actually could be even better. Is the QFTK as good as the QFR quality wise?
Otherwise i'll wait for a Shine III TKL ISO or choose a keyboard without backlighting.

"They have improved on a lot of feedback. " !!!! that's a biggest lie since the assassination of John Kennedy. Unless you're one of the people which are payed to say good stuff about that company (players etc..... then you are excused).

Well, I am not a fan but you gotta admit there are a lot of improvements:
1. they ditched glossy surface for matte
2. switches are plate mounted
3. braided cables which is good thing
4. I didn't like the old blue backlight and the new green is uniform and it is their corporate colour
5. big rubber pads for stands - also from feedback

I don't know. If that is not improving I don't know what is.
