Yeah, of course you can use a fake name, and I do, but it's still a pain in the ass to have to come up with something that Google will believe is a real name (in case I don't want to tie that account to the rest of the established fake identity). Yep, they not only pester you for a real name, but also judge whether you seem to be giving them a really real name. You can say "what's so hard about using fake name lolnoobs" but then I can ask what's so hard about letting people just use arbitrary handles like pretty much the entire internet has done the whole time. How many people are going to provide their actual information? Whatever Google thinks this will accomplish, it won't; it's just annoying.

More often now it seems as if people think that making pithy smartass comments that reduce matters down to a size easily ridiculed is a good substitute for actually having something to say. Just take a second look at whatever you're about to post and consider whether you're actually making a point or just running your mouth and trying to look clever.

I think its down to trying to be like that thing (i think) that bing did where it would tell you "hey 10 of your friends also searched for this. Here is a link they found helpful."

On the one hand I kind of dig the idea. Its like an expansion of people posting links to stuff on facebook. So when for intsance, my friend Al who listens to some pretty obscure but awesome bands, If I got an update that he listened to some song on youtube, Id be pretty stoked given the chances are high that I will like the band and have never heard of them.

In practice though, I dont think I know anyone who uses google+ So the one cool aspect doesnt help me. But it doesnt hurt me to have to use a fake name, since I dont use google+ anyways. So I put my name as Steven Lloyd and Im fine with that. Its not like my youtube/google+ is my main account anyways.

The only real nuisance is the constant nagging about it.

That is not true.  Periodically I get asked if Id like to change my YouTube channel names to my real name, and there's always an option to decline and continue using your preselected alias.

I gave up on Google a long time ago. I've long since switched from using their browser to Firefox, made by a company which actually values and defends privacy.

Hunter, its time to strike back at Google, change your name legally to Hunter Angel and then sue them for distress and defamation for sneering at your actual name.

Still that would defeat the purpose of anonymity, so after that, start a fake account in your old name that will sound real even though it is now FAKE!

How do they determine if the name you give is real or not? People name their kids the dumbest names these days, adults can also have their names legally changed to nearly whatever they want.

Well I think it's my email... Then again my friend had both names on the email and G+ the same and that got banned. So I don't really know how they determine that. Jesus and Adolf get accounts but not me....
