I had some Doritos buffalo wings chips earlier in the week.
[attachimg=1]
They were quite nice, and mildly spicy, but it occurred to me that buffalos generally don't tend to have wings.

What food have you encountered that is mis-named?

No I didn't actually, I was genuinely wondering where the winged buffalo idea came from.
So ... do the buffalos there actually have wings?
-

They are originally French food. The thinly cut and fried potato style.

Belgium actually! The original is a fair bit different than the kind of things you find at fast food restaurants and the like, still nice though.

Obvious joke is very obvious.
Just so we're clear: Buffalo is a town in New York.

There are no buffalo in Buffalo, New York (strangely). Buffalo wings are simply chicken wings dunked in a delicious sauce, and they're named after the town Buffalo (so I suppose they are indirectly named after the animal, but not directly, and the name has nothing to do with the type of meat.) where they were invented.

"Belgium fries" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Hmm:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_fries
"It is claimed that fries originated in Belgium, and the on-going dispute between the French and Belgians about where they were invented is highly contentious, with both countries claiming ownership. The popularity of the term "French fries" is explained as a result of "French gastronomic hegemony" internationally, where the cuisine of Belgium was assimilated because of a lack of understanding."
