Recently saw a FILCO "gold" edition but couldn't find one so I just painted my own. FILCO's are pretty well made!

Looks very nice. Was that blemish by the numberpad enter from painting or before? Also, I notice the media keys, was this a camo filco pre painting?
-
Damn! GeekHack folks have eagle eyes! Yeah it was a camo. When I got it, Camo just didn't look cool as I thought it did. So refinished it.

Any issues with it rubbing off on your wrists? I've heard the metallic stuff is prone to it..
-
It's got 2 coats of clear matt finish protective coat on it. Yeah without it, it would rub off! Also, that small chip, it's not there. Not sure why there is a spec there.
Here's what I did and I am in no way a pro painting person.
1. sand it (i don't even know what grade - some random rough sand paper)
2. 2 coats of 2x primer
3. 3 coats of metallic paint (or like 2.5)
4. 2 coats of clear protective matt finish
One thing of note. I do this outside quickly then bring it inside (the garage) to "dry" It's getting cold where I live and too cold, hot or humid can do really bad things. Also, if you leave it outside, bird poop and other crap gets on it. I don't have a "clean" paint room so yeah.. :D this is all from experience.
One time I was trying a keyboard and the sprinkler went off. yes... I was... un .. happy... :D

Very nice work. I'm curious however, how did you manage to mask the filco sign on the top right so well? It's not exactly a regular block shape.

IIRC it can be removed.

Yep! The filco ID can be removed!
