Title: Tell us about yourself. Why do you post on geekhack?

Tell us about yourself and why you post on geekhack.

It's like a self help group we can call it Poster's Anonymous if you want.

Ok so the truth is I've got no real life friends and just want EVERYONE to like me so I post ALLTHEFREAKINGTIME.

Whew, that feels so good to have that out there.

Anyone else need to purge?

Spending 60+ hours in front of a computer tends to suck, but geekhack makes it more bearable.

I used to be very active on OCN, but it got too blown out by kids posting about how the pair of Titans that their parents bought them weren't giving them the fps they wanted, and that since I am on AMD, my computer should be thrown away and replaced with Intel.

This place has a much more of a friends talking with friends vibe (including the little spats that happen every now and then ;)).

Also, I like to drool over what I could have. Will have, someday.

Programmers are a different sort of person. Not surprisingly there are a lot of programmers here -- what a surprise that those who use keyboards for a living want to use a professional tools for their job.

No I'm not a programmer I just learned to touch type hanging out in IRC channels where full sentences were appreciated. Much like here, actually. No the furry crowd tends to be nothing like programmers but there are still plenty who use full sentences, and spell correctly the words they so carefully chose to use.

I stayed because I noticed that many of the conversations were genuine and that there's less pretense here.
And because people share many of my interests.

I've noticed that a couple of people sound a bit alienated and a bit alone. You have to believe this:

Asking questions, tinkering, trying to improve, (whichever other thing you thinks makes you nerdy or otherwise worthy of being separated from the pack): that's only nerdy if:
1. You believe it to be nerdy.
2. You want it to be nerdy.

If you want it to be nerdy because you are truly reveling in your nerdiness then I applaud you.
If you want it to be nerdy or if you believe it to be nerdy and nerdiness gets you down perhaps you are just afraid of being different.

Here's the thing: you're perfectly justified in this fear. The 'herd' mentality (and notice how the herd mentality automatically sounds so much more noble if you call it pack-awareness - same basic behaviours but if I apply it to predators instead of prey - even if the prey is a herd of huge freaking elk who could kick your head clean off its neck) is often lambasted in the press but the herd mentality is what got us out of the trees and it's a big part of what made us such a powerful species. Your fear is justifiable, but if you are afraid you are different I've got news for you: you ARE different. You have two choices at this point: run with it or be run-over by it. There are plenty of shades of grey, here, I'm sure, but you are different.

The antidote: courage. Notice how infrequently courage is mentioned in any culture? Start paying attention to this. It really isn't mentioned that much at all. It's not really all that present in songs, in shows, in literature, etc. A good place to hear about it: French Literature. Alexandre Dumas or Edmond Rostand (Cyrano de Bergerac is one of my favorite examples). If it's not that common we don't really learn much about it. So start teaching yourself about courage. Challenge yourself to take little steps to become more courageous every day. Savor and appreciate every little victory you gain. Recognize your defeats for what they are: an opportunity to apply more courage.

Courage! Be more brave!
And I don't mean brash, stupid or brutish either: there's plenty of that.

guys I've never been to jail..

But I've been in detention more times then I could remember..

Then eventually I realized.. You don't have to go to detention.. just get your parents to call...

and then I realized , you don't have to get your parents to call.

Just call in with an accent... and they believe it was your parents..

Then I realized, that it wasn't that they believed it was my parents, they just didn't really care...

I've heard the Corean language system is more scientific because it was developed much later..

Geekhack keeps me coming back because I'm always surprised how often I appreciate my typing after coming to this site.

I am a generally creative guy. Some people who know me say I act like a grumpy old man. On most days that is true. My favorite animal ever is the tiger, and if it were to come down to it I'd say the best colors are generally blues and neighboring complex colors green/purple.

I'm no demilk, but I can say that the HHKB Lite is not Thorpe - it is RB, basically a cheapish 60% with arrow keys.

In fact ever since I got one of those "Z boards" back when I played city of heroes around 2004 ish, I was interested in gaming/better peripherals. Slowly I creeped on the intarwebz and learned of mechanical keyboards and always got linked back to threads on this site. So, finally, being a college junior and being fed up with my razer blackwidow, I decided to join. This is after I also purchased a Unicomp customizer 101 back in '09 which Ive been using for gaming/typing/everything. Its so beat up and Ive had so many different boards since joining here... but somehow I always come back to it. Ive never gotten rid of it and I dont think I ever will. If fact, I was lucky enough to just score a BS CC Skull for it, which will probably remain on there for all time. I just love that damn board... anyways...

So basically, kept getting linked back here, so decided to join, then saw how amazing (most of) the community was so I decided to stick around and post here and there. Im a member of SO many forums, but this is the only one where I genuinely care about the people here, want to make friends, are intersted in seeing what they look like, etc.

Now I am jumping head first into the modding and building game. I have hundreds of switches headed my way as well as a couple pcbs, plates and I got a HID for my Filco. I am all setup with soldering station and such as well, so I can't wait for everything to arrive so I can start putting some of this stuff together.

I have an idea for a super minimal case which "should" have a lot of really attractive features (as well as being low cost), so I am really excited to get my PCBs to start doing some testing. Be on the lookout for this... :P

I have been involved with many communities in the past and I have never felt as welcome and appreciated as I do here. Love you guys... :P

I ened up staying because I think most of the people on here are pretty nice people, spam even said hello to me first o: But I think I will stay because well there is always a bit of drama and something new and interesting going on, plus geekhack sort of fills in for my, "I should be working but Im finding ways not to do said work" but hopefully I stay for a while and have some good laughs and talks with all the lovely people :)

I used my signature as advertising space for Granite GB. Many people clicked the link (according to matt3o's counter). We reached 367 sets, some of which I like to think are the result of people finding the GB via my sig. From that, we reached a relatively low price tier.

So from all that, I like to think that I saved money by using my sig :D

If you're not a fan of small boards or the slightly different layout then a 55g Realforce is my alternate suggestion.
