Post by: tp4tissue on Tue, 19 November 2013, 03:19:45
Can some one rough sketch the beam shape from the gun of a typical microwave oven, the kind with glass turntable.

Microwave oven for preparing food: (1) glass plate on which the food is placed; (2) fan whose blades, by rotating, reflect the microwaves in all directions in order to heat the food on all sides; (3) wave guide; (4) magnetron; (5) timers

Thermogram of the horizontal mode heat pattern in a microwave oven. A glass plate with a thin film of water was placed at a height of 8cm to detect the pattern.

Here's one showing how a "flat interior cavity" helps distribute microwaves:

It just gets really soft and spongy, kinda disgusting really. But nothing too bad, would recommend.
No idea how it tastes, someone else can try.

We used to microwave CD's in college because it makes them look really freaking awesome.

DO NOT try this at home, but when you do, don't use any CD's you want to ever use again and also make sure your prepared to throw the microwave away.

Sparks will fly.

Dude this is awesome! I was at a geeky birthday some years ago and we did this thing and we all were like "OMG so cool, go find some more CDs that we can destroy" :D

I do this all the time, didn't break my microwave.  I used to have a bunch of microwaved CDs/DVDs tacked to the wall in my basement.

Figure 1: Microwave attack plan for successfully dominating what appears to be a whole chicken.  Red lines are attack patterns, blue thing on the top is an air horn to signal the attack.

I've been up for way too long

It works with any heat, like an oven.

I microwave a peep once. Those things are nigh indestructable.  Not even the microwave phased it, it just turned it into fluffy lava.

I don't think so, but I seem to remember it whistling when we doused it in something like acetone and lit it on fire.

If a peep doesn't peep in the microwave with someone to hear it, is it even a peep?
