Title: QPAD MK-80 might not be able to get 6KRO over USB?
Post by: andruman on Tue, 19 November 2013, 05:22:17
Hello Guys,

When searching for NKRO Solutions on the Internet i stumbled upon your forum and wanted to ask you some questions about 6KRO.

The reason for my problem started couple months ago when i built a new gaming rig with an asus sabertooth z87 board. I have no freaking clue why but asus decided not to put a ps2 combo port on that board which is in my opionion a gaming board. i know its still my fault because i coulda researched properly before i went out buying.

So im forced to connect my qpad mk-80 via usb. ok i thought i can deal with that and live with 6KRO but it seems not even to be 6KRO. im absolutely sure that i have ghosting problems though i even use only 1 of my hands which would make it very hard to use 6 keyboardbuttons at once. especially when i run around holding down the shift button in combination w, a and d
it doesnt happen all the time but its definitely noticable for me.

the qpad mk-80 is a cherry switch mechanical keyboard with a ps2 connector plugged into a ps/2-usb adapter which goes into my pc.

Do any of you guys have any idea what could cause this? Are there any aditional limitations for usbconnected mechanical keyboards?

i dont really wanna dump another 130€ for a NKRO USB Keyboard

thanks in advance

Both the interface (protocol) and the keyboard matrix have to be NKRO to get NKRO. 6KRO is USB bootmode limit, but you still need a NKRO matrix to get it. Not having this = not a NKRO matrix = they can't be bothered to spend few cents total to put 104 diodes in there = what else did they skimp on?

Not familiar with the board, but skimming the specs this stands out:

Quote
N Key Rollover: Gaming cluster with anti ghosting capability

With a proper NKRO board, no area needs special attention. Mentioning the gaming cluster at all hints that the keyboard doesn't have the diodes required to get full NKRO.

That said, with an optimized matrix the WASD keys and those around them should be fine. So there's a couple of possibilities - either you're using a combination that blocks, or there might actually be a fault in one of the switches (since you say "it doesnt happen all the time"). I suggest testing with a key test program like aquakeytest to figure out exactly what switch or combination gives the problem.

That board looks exactly like my old Xarmor U9BL-S. I had some problems w/ keys not registering reliably and bouncing. Resoldering the affected switches fixed it.
