Title: HHKB O-ring mod woes.
Post by: spammy1982 on Thu, 21 November 2013, 21:57:43
Howdy,
I have a HHKB pro2 and I'm almost finished with the o-ring silencing mod (50A durometer) but having trouble keeping the domes in place while I'm closing her up.  I'm tempted to tack them down with a bit of super glue.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Ive heard of landing pads, punched rubber, and dental bands, but i thought orings didnt fit?  Probably why theyre not staying..

I do believe he means dental bands.

The easiest way to do this, is to place the rubber cups in the face plate and hold the face plate upside down. They stay in place pretty well while you bolt up the bottom to the top.

So it should look like this as you are assembling it

it's the dental band mod and I'm happy with the feel and sound of 99% of the keys.  I'm just having trouble closing up

Do those even fit in the topre stem?

You should post some pics of those on the topre stems.

Most people who say dental band mod, literally use dental bands not o-rings. But I'm interested to see how they work out for you.

The o-rings you specified would work perfectly on a Cherry MX board. For the Topre, I would recommend these: 3/16" 2.5 Oz. Dental Bands: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DB6OERK

Also, when closing the case on the HHKB, make sure the metal piece that protects the ribbon cable is not towards the bottom. It needs to be pushed back up to the middle before closing the case.
