Title: Hello
Post by: kommandant33 on Mon, 25 November 2013, 00:18:41
Hello,

My name is Komm, and I am from Melbourne, Australia.

I have just bought my second mechanical keyboard (It arrived today  ;D :thumb:)- a KBT 60% Pure Pro with  cherry blue switches and blue backlighting.

My old keyboard was a ducky shine II 9008 with cherry brown switches, and some cool keycaps.

So far I am LOVING the cherry blues - such a great actuation, and I am not bottoming out at all - I would say it would be the best switch for beginners.

I don't think I will be changing the keycaps, because I will need the stock ones for reference, but I think I will funk it up a bit by getting a braided USB cable or something like that.

Still have to get used to the 60% layout, though.

As for myself,
I am in my mid 20's - a business development manager for a haircare company. I have a daughter who is nearly 2.
In my spare time I love bashing around my HPI Baja Flux remote control car, and playing FPS games on my PC.

My PC is about to get an overhaul, but the current specs:

ASUS X79 sabertooth
3930K @4.8GHz
2x EVGA 680OC's - currently at stock overclock, but ready to bench.
Corsair Dominator platinum 2400MHz 16gb
Samsung 840PRO 128 x2 in RAID0
WD Black 1TB x2 in RAID0
OCZ Revodrive 3 x2 240gb
Fractal Design R4.
Custom watercooling loop with a BFO MoRa3 rad keeping everything at about 30'c depending on the ambient.

Is that a custom desk?

Welcome to GH!

Is that a custom desk?

I am glad you asked..

Before our little bundle of joy arrived, I had the Masturbatorium. In there I actually had a second hand board room table, which was like 2.2m across and 1.2m deep. It was amazing. It had a 3D surround set up on it, and also an old 3007 30" monitor for my second system.

But then the Masturbatorium was disbanded and turned into a nursery.

So I was banished to a dark corner in the lounge room where I am today...

And the hunt was on for a smaller desk... And all computer desks are too shallow, so you are sitting too close to the 30" monitor, and they have those stoopid keyboard trays and etc... so what I ended up getting was an Ikea dining table! It is the perfect depth, perfect width, almost the perfect height (as you can see I made a little monitor riser using some parts from Ikea - I will show ya'all in another thread)

It was only about AU$130, and it is solid.

As for cable management, I have just nailed in some loops at the back, and cable-tied everything to those. I have also mounted the power board underneath that (which is great for normal cables, but impracticable for power bricks)

You can kind of see it here;

And here is the old 3D surround set up when I was a logitech fanboi
The main reason I got rid of these was the heat output - they can heat up the lounge room in 5 mins flat.. great in winter, but deadly in the Australian summer..

And this is the U3011 with the dell 20"

I still have the 20", but the colours are just SO bad, I haven't bothered to set it up again..

And just for a bit of fun...

I knew that looked a little familiar! Nice job. I used some Ikea parts to make a foot rest for cheap :D.

No I think it's the first 10 or 20 posts you have. Can't remember exactly.

Thank goodness... My eyes are definitely not what they used to be!
