Yeah, get WordPress. I use it at work (have the admin panel up on my other monitor atm) and it's a decent, user-friendly blog software.I use Geekhack, heard it's awesome.. Good user base.. friendly people..

Forums and Blogs are two completely different things...
but if you want to host your own I can help out :) it also uses markdown which is syntax similar to bbc code. (but way better)

Are you an idiot? Forums are for communities of people with similar interests to interact (like this one), where as Blogs are for publishing articles, be them factual or opinion-based. I mean, Blogs could have other uses I suppose, but saying they are the same as forums is just moronic...
Sorry for threadcrapping CPT, but I had to call him on that...

Well that's what happens when you don't invite me to your sleep over to talk about how a certain some one is SUCH A *****!

Nah.. they're the same...
Get tumblr and hash tag every other word. Post random pictures and pretend you're an artsy 16 year old girl.
You can use github and use it as a blogging platform. It's quite easy to set up (lots of tutorials on google) and they look nice.
What?? You can use github for not coding things??

I would like something similar to bbcode very much. However I have no idea what I'd be doing with setting up site or anything. Which is why I was looking for something relatively easy. I don't really know what hosting my own blog would entail...not that I'm opposed to learning :D.
Here are my two cents. I have implemented and operated pretty much everything people have suggested. I have been working in this industry for over 10 years...i can put my signature after every word in this quote.
- Don't use a CMS unless you really want to over complicate your life.
- Drupal would drive you insane and it will never be exactly what you want. Avoid it at all costs...
- If you want CMS type features, Wordpress is the right choice for you. However, you will be forced to setup a server, domain, hosting, database, application, etc, etc... If you have never done any of this stuff it can be a bit of a mine field.

after developing a custom commercial e-learning solution based on drupal, i wanted to grab a reactive poop launcher and kill all the drupal developers.
I want to blog about CPTBadAss.
Thanks for the help so far guys. When I get a chance I'm going to check out Wordpress.
Just for fun. I would recommend you try the hosted options like Tumblr and Ghost (in a few weeks when they roll out the hosted version). Maybe even checkout weebly.com just so you have a comparison between managing a 'blog' vs a 'website'. All of them are free and hosted, so you do not have to setup a server anywhere and install source code or any of that stuff. It will let you evaluate the types of things that are important to you before committing to actually building something.
I am not saying to not use Wordpress, just that now is the time to try the free hosted options before you take that step...

I've ruled out tumblr. I didn't and still can't take it seriously. But I'll check out Ghost and weebly.

It'd be pretty boring. And mostly ice cream based.
"Today he ate coffee ice cream. He was happy. Then he wanted grapefruit sorbet."

Took the plunge with Ghost since hellocodes helped me set a ton of stuff up. Thanks man! :D And yes, you will forever be hellocodes to me :P. I'm still fumbling around with it so I'm not ready to "release it" or whatever.
