Title: Is there any thick PBT keycaps for ISO?
Post by: Deaven on Mon, 25 November 2013, 14:58:06
Hey, just got my CM Storm quickfire XT today, the key caps really is a downside with this keyboard so i want to change it to some high quality ones.

I thought i would get ANSI layout, but i unfortunately got ISO. So i'm wondering if there is any thick PBT key caps sets out there for ISO? Or just an separately enter or something?

Appreciate any answers!

not that we know of, but you might get lucky and look for old Cherry board with PBT caps in ISO layout

Ducky full 105 PBT ISO keycap set Blank White

They are 50 euros from Teraset.net

Ducky has PBT keycaps sets in Nordic layout and in blank, but I don't know how thick they are.
Besides Teraset, I have seen them on Swedish sites Maxfps.se and Inet.se.

It is not that easy.

First of all, they are only cream and grey-coloured. Vintage Cherry corp. keycaps in thick PBT were before Windows keys came along, so they have 7× Space bar and 1.5× Ctrl and Alt keys. There are matching keycaps for the bottom row on later Cherry keyboards, but they are not thick-walled. Also, the thick key caps are either of a variation that has dye-sublimated legends and are very expensive on the second-hand market, or the legends are lasered and often badly aligned and not etched very dark.
It is also not that easy to get hold of any vintage keycaps for Cherry keyboards in any Nordic layout. It took me three years before I found one with thin lasered PBT keys in Swedish layout, and it was on German eBay.

Also, one difficulty is also that some of Cherry's keycaps don't have the stem centred. The 6.25× Space bar is not, and the Caps lock is not. However, there are a few rare models that do have centred Caps Lock..
Cherry's G80-series has MX switches. You could get the 1×1 keys from keyboards in the G81-series, but the other keycaps are not always compatible. Keycaps from keyboards in other series from Cherry may look alike but are not compatible.
Hunting for several key caps sets to fill one keyboard will cost you more than buying a Ducky PBT set.

Ill probably just be buying ABS or Double shot ABS ISO keys in a blank colour and then buy a thick pbt key cap set that's for ANSI.
