You mean it has a crappy air cooler attached to it? Easy to replace though.

replace with what? .. a better cooler? why go through all the trouble of searching, checking, remove clean, apply paste, reassemble...
you could just pay ~ $50 more for a better cooled version..
I just did a mod for fun, putting a 120mm cpu-air-cooler on my mom's 7870 myst.. took me like 5 hours..
Runs cool and super quiet.. but.. if you add in the parts $10, and labor.. you're well above just buying a faster card...

I know but the fun of removing all the original junk off the pcb and see what it all looks like is priceless. Besides I use to take off older fans off video cards and replace it with better spec'd options.
The fun comes with the replacement and seeing the efforts of your hard work in lower temps and a very quiet setup :).

how can it be the burn card when the cooler looks quite good to cool down the whole pcb? 2 fans on top and thick copper pipes also....

I think it's the PWR area that isn't getting any cool air hence the heating up occurs quite easily when it overclocks. The surprising thing is they all have that fatal flaw in the PCB design hence no matter which 7970 you buy, it will overheat like crazy unless you apply some cooling heat-sinks onto certain components which most manufacturers have neglected
But for $200 you just can't complain at all, you lucky bastards enjoy the best deals on this planet were we all get collectively raped, with price gouging for living in far off places >:( .
