Describe the problem? Is it just not working when you plug it in?

The weirdest thing happened when I installed a fresh version of Windows 7 x64 on one computer and when I tried to install the newest version of Etron USB 3.0 driver, all the USB devices just disappeared, vanished (keyboard and mouse). I'm not saying it's the same what's happened to you but the newer driver really stuffed me up BIG TIME. I had to plug in an old PS2 mouse to download the older version for all the devices to re-appear again.
I knew why I keep on buying PS2 enabled motherboards - because they simply RULE :thumb: .

Open it up first, check for any loose wires of other visible defects.
My old Habu had the wire come loose inside, opened it up and seated the connector firmly back in place and that fixed it.

Had the same issue with a brand new xornet.

Just doesnt work when plugged in. Have tried it on 2 pcs. When I have time will try opening it up. Any tips on opening it?
-
What does "doesn't work" mean? I guess there should be something like `dmesg` and `lsusb` on MS Windows to check, whether it's a software, or hardware issue.

there shouldn't be any special tricks, there are screws under the feet and after those are gone it should pry open. Just be careful not to rip the top shell too far off, the LED is probably attached to that, so you risk tearing the cables out. If you do break it tho, no biggie, it works just fine without.
-
There are likely screws underneath, sometimes hidden under labels or the feet. If you stroke the labels you will notice if there is a hole underneath it so that you won't have to remove it beforehand. I would guess that it is simply the cable that needs to be reconnected inside or replaced.
I might have been interested in it for some parts had it been another mouse.
Edit: slow

Two screws (one) under each top L-shaped plastic feet which you peel off entirely. The bottom center hole is hidden under their Razer sticker just above the bottom plastic foot. I suppose they wanted to provide a way of forcing you to send the rodent back for RMA because you couldn't take the mouse apart without digging into their sticker, which would show everyone you had voided their so-called warranty (nice one Razer).

I see all our resident mouse experts have chimed in, thanks guys. Ill check windows once more and then the DA will go under the knife.

How do I check if the usb wire is ok?
-
Is it plugged in inside the mouse? Otherwise, you'd probably have to play with a multimeter.
-
Yeah it's plugged in, not like the mamba which is detachable. So looks like I'll have to open it up and check with a multimeter which I don't have.
-
The USB cable is only rarely soldered in place. If you open it up, you are likely to find a small molex-like connector to the PCB which makes them easy to replace.
-
Thought I'd chime in as I also have a dead deathadder. I opened mine up and compared it to my working deathadder mouse and found no visible differences. What should I be measuring with the multimeter?
The problem I had with my mouse was it not being recognised by the computer. Driver error, giving a code 42
-
Without knowing the error codes, that doesn't give much. If a trace or circuit is broken somewhere and the controller doesn't get the data it should, it might output error 43 for instance. Since it outputs an error odds are that the software is OK and that it is a hardware issue. I don't think it is very common for their software to get corrupted.
I would check for obvious damage, burn marks, swollen capacitors, cables and joints. I would also check the cable. If they get bent around a lot the wires inside can cause intermittent connections. I had that in a device once and it measured OK in a multimeter but when bent back and forth it would occasional break the circuit.
Sidenote: Why do I keep coming across people with broken Razer mice? I am looking for some high quality scroll wheels. Why can't high quality mice break down for me to take some parts from them? Oh, right, nevermind... Contradiction in terms and whatnot

Nope, my initial thoughts when seeing the thread title were along similar lines, although I was expecting either someone just putting a dead mouse on a mousepad or doing that thing where you stuff the inside of a dead mouse with the internals of a computer mouse.
-
Is this a razer mouse? My hex randomly stopped working one day. I switched to a different mouse and removed all if the razer BS they made me install including the driver, then plugged it back in and rebooted. Now it works fine again. I'm on a Mac and it really did not like the razer bloat ware.
Not sure that's helpful, but it may not be hardware.

its probably the crystal. If it is the crystal, i doubt a multimeter will help you diagnose it. for 50 cents just replace it. Or if you cant buy a crystal locally, just buy a cheap $2 thumbdrive and harvest its crystal. btw, crystals look like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5d/Crystal_Packages.jpg

Thats just sick, who the f would do that.

It's an actual thing (http://www.instructables.com/id/Mouse-Mouse!/)
Although not as cool as the guy who turned his cat into a quadrocopter

Oh my god. Sadly this is almost exactly what i had pictured when I saw the thread title.

LoL
-
Gonna get me a quadrocopter.

I opened it but those screws were hard to unscrew. Lost one foot in the process, finally found it stuck on my sleeve. Saw the problem right away luckily, the usb connector was loose.
Thanks for all the advice. I'm quite chuffed. :thumb: just saved some $ but not really as I want to try the cm Spawn.

Why not get the CM Spawn as well? Always have some mice in the draw as you never know when you'll need them.
-
Will definitely get a spawn, want to try the shape. I've got a mamba and DA but I don't think they really suit my hand and grip style.
BTW, Perth looks really small on the map but has a pop. of 1.7 mil. Never had the chance to visit, it was just too bloody far.
wtf goat farm mt bike park.lol
-
If you like the shape of the G5 type mice, you'll probably hate the shape of the Spawn. I heard the Spawn was originally made for people with small hands or younger gamers. It's short and wide compared to most mice.
-
Actually, chau, sometimes the cable is poorly soldered and may have come loose. Did you hear any rattling from inside the mouse?
Of course, as a guy who does lousy soldering, I know this very well!

The usb connector to the pcb was a bit loose, i just pushed it back into place.

I assume there's no way to fix broken sensor myself? The buttons work fine, just that the cursor won't move. I tried on multiple PC with different OS

I'd look for disconnected cables, traces which appear broken, swollen capacitors or some other physically faulty component. If nothing is obviously damaged, then it is far harder to fix. I would say that it is practically impossible to fix if there is a defect within the sensor or the controller since you don't really have access to either one. Replacing the entire sensor is likely more trouble and money than buying a new mouse of the same model.

Thanks for the advice, will try to open the RAT 7 and check for those :thumb:
