Those guys are ****ing prickheads though.

The problem is, Nobody knows all the laws.. so there's going to be quite a bit of blurring in these situations.
This grey area is what the youtubers exploit to make these "that cop sucks" videos.
For the video-poster, it grants them the external recognition of their existence and ego.
For the police, it's extra work that did not need to be done, which is why they're always unhappy to do it, and could get short on temper..
The police are generally good people with a job to do...
The Youtube video posters on the other hand, are no different than Off brand TMZ...
So the argument invariable comes down to "who is MORE wrong"
I would say the start of the incident is more along the side of the youtuber, than the police officer...
The youtuber PURPOSELY sought for a reactionary response on part of the police..

The youtuber PURPOSELY sought for a reactionary response on part of the police..
Yeah and a lot of cops would have given that reaction

but do you fault the cop for the reaction / situation?
from the cop's perspective, it's a random guy walking around with a gun.... and he gets a 911 call...
How easy would it be to determine if they're being trolled vs getting shot and killed...
These ARE guns after all..
Every cop's correct reaction to a guy walking around with a GUN in a publicly explicit non-kill zone should be to stop that guy....
Even with the "law" there... it's just too easy to get hurt around a gun...

Yeah that is also true. Good point of view.

Those guys filming the video... :-\ People like that are the worst.

they're just kids.. in this case maybe they're (BIG) kids..
but... i mean.. kids are kids... they're out for social validation... and the internet is an inexpensive way of achieving it..
I ask myself... why am I here on the internet... hmm.. The situation for me is like a diary...
This is what I thought about today...
This is also where I get the news that I care about....
And I figure it is also a good filter in that respect, because if it's not important enough for geeks to post on GH about it... it's probably not terribly relevant to me....
The message board format is much better than huffpost which is just out to troll you for clicks.

What a fantastic police officer. I actually hate people like that who are filming. Massive ponces.

Nerdy kids pushing the technicality of a law to provoke a reaction. Presumably the idea behind an open carry law is to allow you to have a belt pistol holster or to carry a unloaded and broken shotgun back from a hunting trip, etc. Normal things like that. Not to allow teenagers/twentysomethings to patrol around a populated area carrying a (possibly loaded) assault rifle.

Those constitution soldiers are annoying as ****. It's hilarious when they don't get a reaction from cops that they wanted. They end up looking like the **** heads they are.
But with that said, a majority of this militarized police force is full of ****s.

Most people that carry guns in public manage this
-
Well being from cali. I hardly, if ever, see open carry.
-
Id argue that either the cop ****ed up or the law did/is. A squad of men with side arms and unsheathed assault rifles wandering around downtown is more than enough probable cause to demand ID and run a check.
At the end of the day though, open carry is dumb as hell. It only makes you a target. Either of people who want a free gun, or who are planning to conduct criminal activity in your presence. You gotta conceal your weapon so you can come up on em and turn their insides into outsides.

yea.. open carry doesn't make sense from a the perspective of self defense..
The more covert your abilities the better.
-
Not really. Deterrence is the best form of self defence after avoidance. Not that I'm a proponent of open carry (or carry in general).

I own guns and agree completely.

These are idiots who go out to deliberately evoke a reaction and try and get into fights with cops. Nearly every single one of these videos I've seen has these idiots turn a polite officers comments into a fight, instantly becoming combative the moment any authority figure shows up.
In some states, open carry is a self-defense thing, but in just as many states, it's designed to let you legally move firearms around for recreation and sport.
