apparently these headphones require a significant amount of burn in at 100+db for 500+ hours
source: some whiny sounding guy on head-fi
For $10 you could get a headphone which requires no burn in to sound great, NVX Audio XPT100 Studio (http://www.amazon.com/Over-Ear-Headphones-ComfortMax-Cushions-Earpads/dp/B0093PVTPS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386523214&sr=1-1&keywords=nvx)
The above V-MODA are bassy until burn in is complete- so say the source. The phones I linked are a champ across the frequency spectrum.

The best summary of the whole debate over burning in headphones or not I've ever seen:
"If they sound lousy out of the box, but they start sounding a lot better as you listen to them over time, it's your amazingly versatile brain figuring out how to cope with the world.
The miracle is in your head ... not in the headphones."
