Title: HHKB Left Shift Hard to Remove
Post by: reziak on Tue, 10 December 2013, 16:38:08
Hey guys,

I was just trying to take my Left Shift off my HHKB, and it's really, REALLY hard to get off. I did get it off, but do I need to be worried about damaging anything internal? Both my wire keypuller and the the metal "grippy" kind were damaging the bottom of the cap because I was pulling so hard, so I ended up sticking some dental floss in there and pulling it off that way. Is that normal?

Just don't pull too hard you can break things....specifically on the space bar especially.

To me HHKB keys do seem a little more difficult to remove than some mx caps.

The spacebar was a lot easier, as I was able to just remove the surrounding keys and pull it off with my fingers. Thanks for the response - I feel better now :)

They also seem to be a lot harder to put back on.

MX just slides on, and push down and it's done.

HHKB you put the keycap on, push down, then really push down and something goes CLICK loudly and it's on.

Yeah, coming from MX switches and considering the price of a HHKB I was really worried about breaking it....

Using a cherry wire keycap puller works for me.

Bold part of the quote is critical. Without the "click" sound emitted from the keys when one is replacing their keycaps, they will:

Wire keycap pullers can be replaced much more easily than keyboards.

Yeah the key is fine no stress or anything. The puller struggles w the lieft shift though.
