Perhaps this explains why CM have invented the Topre keyboard with MX-compatible stems. Maybe they heeded the rumours before anyone else.
What I'm wondering is ... if Topre keyboards (RealForce, HHKB, FC660C) are still being made, will they be supplied without keycaps?

Oh I see so youre undecided on your Topre choice. Well Ive heard good things for Poker 2 so thatd be a great MX until you decide on a Topre, just have to decide on what switch to get. There are testers you can get, or order individual switches too to test them. I like clears, I dont think they come with those though.

I just bought an HHKB, and even if it ends up that I can't customize it I still can't imagine I'd ever regret the purchase. I love typing on it so much.
How many different sets did Topre make? I keep hearing there is a lack of selection for Topre caps so I'm guessing most Topre owners have purchased the few sets that are available thus leading to a decline in Topre cap sales. If they just released different color runs I'm sure the existing Topre set owners would pounce on them and sales would continue. I find it crazy that a keyboard company would cease production of keys. It's madness!!I think it's a different situation for Topre, as they are the maker of the switches and, as far as I know, the sole maker of the keycaps. It's as if Cherry were the only company making MX keycaps. In some sense, it's reasonable for Topre themselves to not feel a need to cater to the custom market. I wish there were third party options, maybe in the future.

While EK still has topre printed white PBT keycaps with legends for sale, how hard would it be to remove the legends? IE sandpaper/sandblasting/chemicals? I've seen it done with ABS but have no idea about PBT, is this even possible without rendering the caps warped or useless?

Seriously though Vesper, how did you ever save and or make enough money for all these different topre keyboards and all the custom keycaps and sets? I seriously am so jealous of this collection, I think I might actually cry again, but my wife said she punch me in the man parts if I whimpered while looking at keyboards again...so. yeah a bit ackward if you ask me. Okay so Vesper I did receive the red keycap set for Elitekeyboards today, and I wanted to say thanks for posting a pic in our convo of what you did to make the keycaps fit, and now I have a red key capped keyboard and I was little skeptical on the aesthetics at first but after finishing the changing of all the keys I have to say it looks really nice in contrast with the dark charcoal colored chassis of the keyboard. I will post a picture on here and link you the photo on youtube.
As it is though I would really like some green WASD keys to go with the red set, so If you know anyone who is willing to sell and or trade, seeing that I have the red lettered and arrow version of the wasd keycaps, I would really appreciate it. It would definitely complete the keyboard after I get a nice custom colored sleeve cable. I will keep updating with photos as soon as I can get my phone plugged in. Happy holidays geekhack community

I made an order with EK for a pink keyset (at the time of order there were two left) but after more than a week or so, they came back to tell me that they have miscounted their stock. Quite disappointed with their handling system.

Not necessarily. It may actually end up not being worth as much as it is now when considering that the CM Topre keyboard (and other future boards) will be MX-keycap compatible. This might hurt the resale value of RealForce keyboards since a big reason people stay away from Topre is not because of the price, but because of the lack of keyset customization.
Sad. But now my Realforce got way more valuable!

I entirely agree with you. Was just saying that it's sad that these are disappearing and there might not be anymore real options in fully customizing RF/HHKB/660C. Maybe other companies/individuals will come through in the near future.

Brian@EK said it's a huge investment to set up the tooling required for an entire set of Topre keycaps. They found a company somewhere in China that could do this but they want some crazy MOQ; I think it was 1000 or more. Getting something worked out with Topre and this company hasn't worked out so far.

Oh, I remember rubberdomes alright...I just wonder what the designers were thinking, maybe it was..:
~ Dern Cherry Corp and Alps. How are we gonna compete with their switches. I know, let's start with a rubberdome, cut all the individual rubber pieces out, mold rubber~ ~ around the keyswitch parts, and then encase those inside a plastic shell. We'll call it RealForce, and all the kids will line up around the blocks to buy them because we ~
~ will put them in super trendy HHKB's and market them as 'hybrid' tactile switches. We will make millions. Oh, and the leftover parts, we will put in a keyboard we will ~

Well some sads news has come to light. I emailed EK for some information on if the Topre Realforce keycaps will ever come back in stock and this is what I got back from them..
"Topre has told us only in the last week that they no longer wish to make keycaps. We are looking for other options, but this might not happen. Please join our newsletter for future updates.
