So I stopped by my favorite junk shop once again today. I was picking through their box of mechanical keyboards, and grabbed a few things.
NMB RT101+
Focus 2001 with blue ALPS
DTK Keen 1600 with blue ALPS. Build quality not that great but this one appears to be XT/AT switchable.
Anyway, I pulled one of the keycaps off the NMB board and having never looked closely at an NMB switch before said, "what the hell is that?"
The guy who works there said, "Oh yeah, let me look it up on that Japanese guy's page. He has pictures of all kinds of key switches."
"Sandy?" I asked.
"Yeah!" He says.

From the streets of Sacramento to the freeways of LA.

she's got a monopoly. I hope you have google ads running on your site, sandy!

Wellington, you are going to get yourself in trouble again. :) Remember, Sandy can be a guy's name, too. Think Sandy Koufax of Brooklyn/LA Dodgers fame.
-
BTW, Sandy's got the switch game locked down!
Don't ask me to translate, Sandy, it's a good thing. :)

The great humongous is a fellas name :)

D'oh! Sorry Sandy ;) To make up for it I'm going to refer to Laurie as "she" for a week. ;)

While I read alps switch debating in billm's Filco thread, I noticed that wellington thought I was a female because of my pseudonym. I myself bit hesitated to use it when I jumped into i/net world.
*Sandy* came from my family name and there are plenty of beautiful white sand beaches around the isl. But I'm always being *sandy* within a virtual world. so lam, if possible, edit your comment please? ;)
>billm,
I think your Focus 2001 has win keys, riight? if so, switches on the board are fake, but somehow lighter than those in DC-2014/3014. some may say they are smooth and the others say loose or unsteady.

Nope, no win keys. It's an old AT board. I just opened up the switches on both of these boards and they're both blue alps with grey mechanisms.
Are you sure you don't want some? I'm rolling in these things now.

  Hard to believe that 2001 started with real alps blues.
Well, according to FCCID, FK-2001 was granted in 1988 while ALPS blues were supposed to be taken over to white around 1988. ( White clickies were found in boards made in 1988, according to legendary switchaholic MouseFan ). I've believed FK-2001 might start with white clicky but I was wrong actually. and the truce is....initial lot of FK-2001 started with blues.

I'm not ! I do want but the board! :p
Oh,well, that's going too far so I'd like to ask you; Could you take some pictures of FK-2001 and email them to me?
Front image, front image ( few keys without caps showing blues), macro shot of switch module on the plate, macro shot of internal assemblies of switch module, bottom, FCC label... I'd like to add them in my FK-2001 page.

Here are some pics of it. Notice the switches on the back. One converts from XT -> AT and the other swaps Ctrl & Caps Lock.

I made mistake. I want more pics, close ups for switches, please? from top of a switch and few pics of internal from deferent angles.
A switch for swapping Ctrl & Caps reminds me Northgate Omni series. If you can read Japanese, you may notice that I have a vague assumption of Focus being as an actual supplier for Northgate (http://sandy55.fc2web.com/keyboard/fk555.html).

Hey Sandy-
Here are a couple of more photos.
So you know I'm not trying to sell this to you right? I was just going to send it to you if you were willing to pay shipping.
-
Tanks for the pictures.
Could you clarify but...are you ready to send the board but not the switches for shipping cost? if so, I would really like to take the board and off course I willingly pay for shipping. I'll PM you later.
I think you'd better edit some of your comments in this thread and "Blue ALPS?" to kill links and edit name of the shop. Otherwise all of future coming boards in the shop will be grabbed by eB-e-i s*l*e*s trying to make profit with them.
.... guys and ladies who want to visit the shop are requested to bookmark it before, in case, billm do so.

I wish we had a store like that in this area! The only decent keyboards I've found have been from the local DI (Deseret Industries) stores; these are similar to Goodwill or Salvation Army. And even at DI they're rare; I think it's been a couple months since they've had anything but low-end rubber dome boards (and two Dell AT101Ws that I didn't buy).

Hi Sandy-
Yes, I will ship the board to you for shipping cost only if you want to do that. Can you PM me your address? I will ship the board and then paypal you for the shipping amount? Something like that? We can work the details out later.
I agree that it's probably a good idea to take the name of the shop out of the thread. I'll do that
Along those lines, I feel a little sneaky about the fact that I didn't tell the guy who works there about this place (geekhack). He obviously has an interest in clicky keyboards, and knows a little bit about what he's sitting on but I don't think he has any idea that there are other people who are interested in them. I feel bad about not telling him about you guys because I think he'd enjoy the forum, but I was afraid that if I told him he'd keep all the good stuff hidden in the future.
Dunno... not sure what the ethical thing to do is here.

Buy all of his good sh*t, then tell him about the forum. :)
I would just tell him about the forum. I would imagine he knows enough to know what stuff he wants to save and what stuff he wants to sell. I mean, eBay is no secret to anyone, and if he knows about Sandy's site, then he is somewhat informed already.
-
the ethical thing to do is to get as many boards as you can as cheaply as you can :)
And *then* tell him about the forum :)

Would you educate an ebay seller who lists an expensive keyboard in the wrong place with a misleading title, so that he can relist it, thus voiding your chances of making a nice deal? Probably not.
And if it was your friend who made that mistake. Would you tell him? Sure you would.
The question is, how good you know the guy in the store. Or how good you will know him if you plan to go there often.
