Title: Kishsaver Listing
Post by: Aer Fixus on Fri, 13 December 2013, 21:39:29
This is not a "great find" in the sense that it is a great deal, but simply because it exists. I, like many others, scoured the internet looking for a Kishsaver before Tinlong's amazing find. I found a single listing for a very expensive Kishsaver. I was seriously considering saving up and purchasing it, but now that I have one, I am comfortable letting this link out to someone else crazy enough to gamble this much money on a potential Kishsaver.

Now, for clarification: According to Kishy's spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmX2RHh7e1HxdEFkc29RRjU1RUdDVGdFc1pEdU1kTFE&usp=sharing#gid=2 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmX2RHh7e1HxdEFkc29RRjU1RUdDVGdFc1pEdU1kTFE&usp=sharing#gid=2)
The model number 6019322 should be a Kishsaver, but it's not confirmed yet (and if you decide to purchase it and it's not one, I warned you).

As far as I am aware, the differences are unknown, so the [future] converter might not even work on it, although that's doubtful.
In addition, the stock is listed as 1, so it is likely that they actually have it, although it is a complete possibility they don't actually have it (old versions of the same page list as having more stock, so at some point it was updated). More warnings: They have not returned a single e-mail or call, so if you decide to purchase it, buy it with a card/service that provides buyer protection in the case that they are completely inactive and don't actually send it.

So after all that and for the person that has the money, but missed the initial sales, here is the link: http://www.overstockedcomputer.com/product.asp?id=978191&C=304&S=2045 (http://www.overstockedcomputer.com/product.asp?id=978191&C=304&S=2045)

When I independently discovered the 4704 keyboards before their unveiling, I looked all around the internet for them, and contacted all the companies that said they had stock. I remember finding this page in my searches.

I either did not receive a reply or they were unable to get stock.

The upcoming controller should be able to work with this, but nothing is certain until somebody tries it.

In other news, on a trade loop website I was able to find some indication that there should be someone with two of the 77-keys (similar to the QF TK) somewhere but I haven't been able to find them yet.

Finally RJR electronics in Georgia claims on their front page to keep all 4704 keyboards in stock. They did not reply to my emails.

Excellent research showing much dedication! I hope it's actually there and will pay off for somebody. Thanks for posting.

Yeah. This company has not responded at all to my messages. I did find some other listings with listed prices (so there was no button for a quote), and when I "purchased" them, I got a message a couple days later saying they were out of stock and the listing was removed from their site.

Thanks, and I hope so too.

This type of thing is very common and incredibly frustrating. It is nice when they at least have the decency to take down the listing.

I just found one with pn# 6019314. It's a 50 key.  Manufactured in 1989.

Is it a listing? Are we sure that it actually has stock? Will you be posting it?

Just curious.

I've called a couple of companies whose websites claimed they have Kishsavers in stock (if only I could remember which companies... the first one mentioned might have been it) a few months ago, and spoke with someone on the phone.  Each time they said that the listings were outdated, and all of that stock has been gone for a long time.  I always try to call instead of e-mailing, when phone numbers are provided.

I did that with a bunch of sites. These guys didn't answer their phone at all every time I called. If I saw a site with one listed as "in stock" I purchased it instead of sending emails or calling (except for this one because of the high price). It's nearly guaranteed that they respond within 24 hours. In addition, they changed the listing to accurately reflect that they were out of stock instead of keeping it there like if you just called or e-mailed. I do have hope for this one because an outdated version of the site lists the boards as having 7 in stock, so they have updated it within the century.

Pfft, that's nothing. This one time I was trying to get the larger kishsaver from a certain company that actually had them (in that one was bought from them and they had more), for about a year. I kept calling, they kept apologizing, would check, would get back to me with a price and shipping costs, etc. I called them a few months ago last - they said someone scrapped them all 'by accident'.

Edit: You can also be reasonably certain to a few 9s of accuracy that any PN that is listed as 'CPA' and not 'IBM' is not available, as these are bottom feeder scumbag outlier resellers that simply buy it at the place that has stock, and either drop ship or reship to you at a drastic profit. Since CPA is no longer around, anyone listing these PNs has nowhere to source them from..

Make no mistake...in the year prior to releasing the info about it, I emailed and/or called a huge number of suppliers across North America, including some with no record online saying they had em, just on the recommendation of the previous place I spoke to. You will NOT find these things easily.

Most are probably e-waste now and that's exactly, I believe, what tinnie's haul from China is. That's the best place to find them because anyone in an e-waste chain over here has to respect the secure destruction requests of the companies that dumped them. Once they're out of the country to be "securely disposed of" is when they'll surface again. This is why it's so important to understand what they were used for: finance. Nobody in that industry lets their IT gear leave without assurance of it being destroyed.
