I got my ergodox a few days ago and refined the Microdox layout. Microdox is a minimal layout using only 27 keys per hand. It is Workman based but it can be anything you like. V1 had an extra layer for qwerty but I removed this in the interest of simplicity. Its easy enough to add it again by replacing the +L1 key with a ~L2 key and making L2 QWERTY if you like. Anyway here it is. There are a bunch of subtle refinements over the original. The media keys wont work unless you use TMK (or make them F keys and map them in software). I wish there were a way to make ctrl-key pairs in the configurator. That would solve everything.

The main differences are:
The inner direction keys are more intuitive
Ctrl+Alt+Del line up for easy pressing
I included some extra keys for programming and grouped them together.
~L1 and Shift are next to each other in a more ergonomic way.

Umm.... looks good.. but ah... the thumb clusters are harder to reach than the outermost column...
so..... if anything.. I'd think we should micro outwards instead of inwards.. (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/th_104_.gif)

Not for me they arent. The thumb clusters are very reachable and comfortable for my hands. Much more so than reaching with the pinky for the outer columns.
