Hey GH,
I have 2 fc 660 boards: one topre and one mx clear. Right now I prefer the clear to the topre, but i've heard that the leopold doesn't give a true topre experience compared to boards like realforce and hhkb. I also don't know whether going with ergo clears will make the tactile feedback on the clears less noticeable and start to feel like them damn scratchy browns.
So..... is the master switch ergo clears or topre?
Thanks!

Depends on who you are
Everyone thinks differently
I personally hate Topre
-
Thorpe all the way!
-
There is no master switch
Its all personal preference

Ergo clears are supposed to retain the tactility, which is why people like them.
I've actually heard the opposite about the FC660C, that it gives a great Topre experience. If you don't like the FC660C, there's no difference between it and a Realforce/HHKB.

Now this is a loaded question.
*noisyturtle backs out of the room slowly

Why not both?

Why not both?
The GH catch-phrase!
-
Well I think it should be; why not them all?

Yeah, I've heard that the 660C has the best plate-mounted 45g topre experience. However, if you are feeling a little underwhelmed with topre, and you naturally prefer clears, then just stick with that. I'm a bit underwhelmed with my FC660C and I think I'm going to try lubed ergo clears.

the underwhelming i believe is quite the common occurrence because there are all these hype n00bs..
Topre really is not that special at all..

Usually the thorpie users will gravitate towards any keyboard that uses them switches, but not everyone here on GH loves them.
If you want to try Ergo-clears then go with them, you will always have the ENORMOUS pleasure of customizing your key-set as time goes on, which you can never do with any Thorpie Keyboard now.

+1
There is probably very little difference in feel between the varied sets of Topre apart from either softer or harder rubber domes (that is, 30g, 45g, 55g). If you have tried both Cherry MX and Topre (as you already mentioned here) and you are inclined to try MX clears with Ergo Dox then that would have shown your intentions clearly.
The only thing compatible to Ergo Dox in the Topre realm is really the uTron. As far as I am aware of there are no other Topre boards with split keyboard design besides uTron which costs virtually twice as much as Ergo Dox.

I hear you brother :thumb: . It hurts when you need to tell the truth to some, here on GH.

Never tried FC660C or ergo clear but I liek both HHKB and Realforce 55g very much.
45g, not so much
-
I'm typing on 68g ergo-clears right now and they're freaking amazing. This is only as compared to blues/browns/stock-clears/BS though. I'll eventually try Topre, I'm sure.
-
Why not both?
This. (although I prefer 55g Topre)
It's nice to switch it up once in a while, especially if your hands are fatigued.

I have the exact same 2 keyboards as you. A FC660C and FC660M. If you prefer the Cherry MX Clear FC660M over the Topre based FC660C, then I suggest you stick to the Cherry MX Clear. I have other Topre based keyboards like the Realforce and Type Heaven and I find the Topre on the Leopold has the nicest Topre key feel. Never tried the HHKB so I don't know about that one. All I can say is that all the topre based keyboards have more or less the same type of feel. They are just differentiated by the different weightage and the keycaps they use. Yes, even the keycaps used has an effect on the feel but in the end it's still the topre feel. The cherry MX clears on the other hand is totally unlike other cherry MX switches I've tried. Has the best tactility and in terms of feel the closest to topre IMO. But its still not a Topre. There's no discounting individual tastes. What I've found in my journey is that even watching YouTube videos will not be able to convey how a particular switch feels like. Maybe the sound, loudness etc but not the feel. You really have to have the keyboard to know whether you'll like it or not.

Why not both?
With a few spares. ;o

Lubed ErgoClears are awesome. I have 62g Originative springs in mine.
The lighter springs actually enhance the tactile bump rather than diminish it since you are reducing the relative spring pressure, but not changing the leaf pressure or bump size. So you will feel the resistance and release of the bump more, relative to the spring resistance. Hope that is understandable...

i think difference though tried yet
plastic is plastic though+lubed just refine
rubber is rubber
:))

Yes...if you find something you like always get spares.....

Personally, I am a bit hesitant about topre, because of the rubber degrading over time.

There are no real reports of that so far.
In fact people say as the Topre boards wears in it improves.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I think I'm gonna venture in deeper into the mx club (sorry thorpe!). I think i'm going to sell the leopold fc660c, but i'm not too sure about the pricing and I don't wanna overcharge someone. The WASD keys are starting to get faded, but otherwise everything else is fine. Or if anyone wants to sell me an ergo clear board for my topre+$ so i can have two clear boards? :)

You can probably sell it for at least 160/170 shipped if it's in great condition. I saw some ergo clear boards for around $200 as well in the classifieds.
