I'm contacting a few vendors about getting bulk pricing on these, mainly because I want one, and I'd like to try and get them cheaper for more people :thumb:

In, I have a yihua which isn't bad but if we could get these for cheap I would be in.

Some quotes I'm getting are putting it right around $70 to me, I'm going to keep digging tho x.x

"With TLC, I suspect one of you kids could make it last a good 5 years, whereas I am almost certainly going to break it in the next 6 months." -mkawa (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51976)
They're not useful for mkawa because he leaves his soldering iron on 24/7 for when he wakes up with soldering epiphanies.

So for us mere mortals it should be perfectly fine!

I'd be interested, but how much would (Canada/Int.) shipping be for such a heavy package?

Probably north of $28, depending on weight.
-
id be a buyer at $70 with free shipping. Otherwise, I'll just wait for it to go on sale again at frys.
-
just fyi, i'm prepping the geekhackers learn to solder kit right now and it will be available within a week. price TBA but competitive.
-
I have a Hakko 888D now, because I was able to get a good used deal off Amazon, but I've used one of those Edsyn soldering irons mkawa is talking about and it was quite good. (P.S.: it was a test prototype, so I had to return it. Otherwise I wouldn't have looked at that Hakko).

I am disappointed by the Yihua I acquired and I would have joined this if it hadn't been for that large puddle being in the way.
-
I'd be in if the cost + shipping to Canada is less than $100. :thumb:

This + shipping from me -> you only puts it $5 under amazon prime pricing, i.e. not worth.

I'll be getting one of these kits, you should too if you plan on doing soldering semi-regularly :thumb:
