Title: Digilog Aluminium Case for Realforce 87U not Working
Post by: peter79 on Fri, 20 December 2013, 03:15:32
Dear Geekhack forum members who has bought Digilog Aluminium case for Realforce 87U.
I have just assembled my Realforce 87U 55 gr into the Aluminium case, I connect the wire, then plug usb 2.0 on my computer and mini usb to the keyboard.
But the keyboard doesn't work  :'(
It's a lovely case, but I can't enjoy it for now, I'm waiting for Digilog email reply.

Try putting your realforce back into its original shell and see if it works?

I also have a digilog case that I need to put my board in. Just curious, how many of you ran into other quality control issues? Any problems with the anodizing? I've already noticed two spots and I was thinking about saying something, but I want to test the whole case first to make sure everything fits.

I really hope that you get your realforce case working, because they look absolutely amazing from the few I have seen. I currently own a leopold fc660c and because of these cases I almost sold mine of before I ever got it, they look really nice the usb hub is a definitely plus to have. Hopefully everything will work great once you replace the board. Happy holidays and gl

Glad to see you have a working controller now :)

If anyone ends up with a bad PCB that they're not using let me know. I want to try my hand at repairing/modding some of these bad PCB's for a project I'm working on.

Of course  ;D
It's not only the cosmetic difference, but also the typing feel, you don't feel any wobble at all.
It's very sturdy compared to the original ABS Plastic case.
The Aluminium casing alone weight 2.6 kg vs 1.2 kg of total weight of 87U
So in my calculation, It will be 3.6 kg of weight vs 1.2 kg

Has the new case altered the geometry at all (specifically, the height and angle) of the keyboard? I noticed you're using a palm rest. Seeing those big brass feet on the Digilog (which don't appear to be removable?) made me wonder about that.

I also had a defunct board at first. Simply let them know, and the replacement worked flawlessly.

I had no issues with my finish, but mine did come with a stripped screw. Simply went to the hardware store and got another one. Was about $.30

After the installing the new aluminium case, the case is about 1 mm higher, measured from the wood rest, which turns out nicely.
If you don't use wood rest, the original case is better because it's not so high.
With wood rest, I prefer the aluminium case, because it gives me better angle.

Yeah when I first try to install, I feel frustrated, because It's not working, but waiting for 15 days pays off.
The whole typing experience is going to another level, Aluminium case rocks!! I wish there's full size Aluminium case for 104 U  ;D

i really hope that there is another run of these cases.  no changes other than making the brass feet optional.  all of the korean customs try to look fancy, but this one just looks like a pure chunk of aluminum awesomeness

Today I open the case, discover that the Mini usb port was burned...
There's a yellow mark on the aluminium case.
Luckily my 87U is ok, now I go back to use original case.
Any idea how to change the USB port?
Is it fixable?
