I'm thinking its going to be useful even if it looks *really* silly.  Reading on the treadmill? Pacing the room while writing or typing? Even sitting at desk to hold up my notes while I type.

(Just so long as I'm not seen in public with it, lol).

Somehow, I'm not sure this qualifies as "wearable computing".

Not likely — you wouldn't even get it on before they'd school you.

you mean other than comic relief? :)

well like I said in the OP, I think mostly I'll hold up my notes while I'm at my desk. I've tried a variety of book holders and paper holders (I'm quite a connoisseur of them by now) and havent been happy with any. This thing would put my notes right under my chin (and off my desk) as I type.  :)

Mainly for that, I think. But I could also pace the room while reading (I do that sometimes).

Or eat a sandwich on it, lol. Come to think of it, it could double as a sandwich holder while I'm typing. :)

I still say it would be best suited for selling concessions at ball games.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks EXACTLY like the harness worn by the characters in "The Typing of the Dead" game?

lol, I just had to share this (http://i.gizmodo.com/281866/make-your-own-office-chair-bike) (the ideal complement to the connect-a-desk?):

Dude, if I ever saw you riding that thing using the connect-a-fail, I would purposely aim for you with my vehicle.

It would be a good thing for you in the long run.

Just got it, lol (that was mighty fast shipping, by the way).  It pretty much does what it says.
Do I like it? Well... I... do!

lol!

It pretty much does what I thought it could do. (including sell crackerjacks and hot tamales).
I guess the only thing I thought was that I wish it were plexiglass/transparent (so I can see my keybaord as I type with it on, lol). But not a biggie.

I found this ad for the Desk-o-Bra on woot.com.  The model looks none too enthusiastic about having to use it.

Oh lord... I wish I ventured out of the keyboard forum more often (long time lurker). Anyhow, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw that thing is "Switch" from the manga Sket Dance. Rather than explain it, I've just attached the couple pages that mark his introduction. (Note: manga is read right to left, top to bottom.) Between his nickname and his typing obsessed personality, I'd say he's the closest thing to a geekhacker that I've come across in the realm of fiction. ;)

lol, too funny. I had no idea I was imitating a manga character. (Not that that makes me look any less dorky when I put it on ;)

With this thing, you could blog about the walkathon, while doing it... that would be kinda new :)

One of my customers has actually made one of these for his company. They use it when they have to count all the items in the warehouse (dunno what thats called in english, but I am sure there is a special word for it).

They just put this on one of the ladies from the office and send her walking around the warehouse with 10 to 15 people counting the stock and reporting to her as she arrives at the pallet-slot.

Before this it took them almost 3 days to do it, because the lady from the office that can use the software properly cant use the forklift or move some of the heavy parts around to count them (or she doesn't get paid to do it) and the workers that normally work the warehouse are not the most computer-savvy folks on the face of the earth, so they would have to go count a couple of slots and then report to the office with the numbers.
This often caused things to be recorded at the wrongs slots because of mix-ups.
Today they use less then 9 hours.

Maybe I should send him an email so he can buy one.

But it does look silly... The first time I saw it, I was being show round by the manager and the second the office-lady saw me, she took of the "device", placed it on the floor and walked away blushing :D It was bad enough with her co-workers around, but some stranger, that was too much.
It was so hard not to laugh :D

I think this is a product that could have certain uses like your warehouse example, but it does have the appearance of just being another silly gadget that someone made when trying to be a millionaire "inventor." :)

I used to send pictures of the contraption to gamers joking that they could game while on the treadmill or walking to school/work, et cetera.

Snow Crash. HA!

I actually told Welly that in a PM right after. lol. I didn't post it because I thought it would be too obscure. The book was all right until the end, where it sucked balls.

I've tried to read Snow Crash on three separate occasions.  It can never keep my interest past the first few chapters.  I'm not sure why.  Maybe I should try for a fourth time. ;)

The last 20 pages ruins whatever good the book had in it.

Speaking of gargoyles, has anyone seen or (*chuckle*) used these things?:

http://www.eholster.com

They got started amid the '90s dot-com boom, and they were so laugh-provoking back then, I'm stunned to see that they're still around today.

I love how they say they're "fashionable" with (presumably) a straight face.

Wellington, as usual, reality is stranger than you might imagine. Steve Roberts outfitted a series of recumbents as mobile computing platforms and rode them across the USA, doing journalism on the road. Literally. He had a chording keyboard mounted to the handlebars so he could type as he rode. Check it out. (http://microship.com/bike/behemoth/bikelab/910130.html) This stuff was way out ahead of the cutting edge for its time.

The real question is why iMav is the site's top model.

Bahahahah!  I thought the same thing.  This is just like a glorified man-purse.  This is the new-generation pocket protector.  Sorry, iMav, you like a complete dork on that site. ;)

So were you actually able to do any of these things? I would imagine that the constant shaking from your steps would make it impossible to read.

lol, i can pace while reading with it; and its definitely good for sitting up in bed or at my desk and reading, especially late nite when i'm tired and i like the book right up under my chin. Its great for that.

I prolly wouldnt use it on treadmill tho, too much shaking, besides treadmills already have book holders.

Overall tho i confess i've used this less than I thought ;) Tho i'm still glad to have it around, cuz every now and then, it fits the bill perfectly.  I've got a nice collection of book holders now and this one is definitley one of the more unique ones ;) But hey, I read and write for a living so I can justify luxuries like this even if I only use them rarely.
