Post by: Matt3o on Sun, 22 December 2013, 08:00:45
I know... a lot of ICs lately. This is the last one, promise.

Let's see if you reckon where this comes from

I think the black should be reduced some as well, it's still more of a highlight color, like the yellow.  I had a nice variable model kit from ages ago, until it took a dive off a shelf.  It's stuck in my head that it was a Tamiya model, but I can't find any evidence to support that.  Ahh well... you can count me in for interest :D

Ooh, I like that better overall.  I do kind of like the way the first version broke up the blocks of color a bit?  Like having the ALT-SPC-ALT in black & also the arrow cluster?  Having the F5-F8 in white also broke it up a bit.

If it doesn't change from here though, I still like it.

maybe we could add the arrow cluster in a different color to break the wall of white.

also red enter is a possibility

I made some tests for that but the keys are very small and you end up with a incomprehensible scribble. But if we can find the right graphics it might work

Just waiting to hear from you and SP when this Key-set will go PBT - DSA soon.

You can still do all the White on Black with ABS but the rest in PBT, speak with Melissa about arranging that with them.

Post by: Matt3o on Tue, 24 December 2013, 04:36:07
Unfortunately DSA + PBT is not an option yet. This will still be ABS (I'm not a huge fan of mixed materials).

Somewhen next year we will be able to go full PBT (spacebar included).

merry Christmas Matt3o
can i trouble you for the size that you used for the graphics?
i wasn't able to find a viable silhouette... would like to try using sprites and see which one could fit on a keycap.
thanks in advance.

The following is the (almost) final design

I've added a black stripe for 60% that otherwise would lose the yellow+black thing. Also the numpad gets the Zentradi logo :)

I think I still miss a couple of keys though

bianco, sorry for the dealy I'm sending you the template by email

Maybe also continue the black-stripe onto the numpad 7,8,9?

Well... I hadn't put a whole lot of thought into it, but I do have a keypad that matches my 60%...  right now it's wearing matt3o's DSA retro, but both the cases are black, and the black/brown combo I'm not sure about.    I thought having the black stripe continue over to the keypad might be nice, even if the keypad is separated.  I dunno, just a thought.

Edit: old picture, everything is wearing DSA retro right now...

Ahh, I made it... there is a bit of information over in the GHpad thread on page 4 (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38963.msg874217#msg874217).  The case could use some work.  It looks ok, but the PCB mount points need alignment and the profile doesn't quite exactly match the poker case I was trying to mimic.

Pairs of control and alt keys in 1x would be useful, they may fit some 3000 cherries and some koreans.

Also you should consider that their profile will allow the alphas to be moved around, thus the set will be a good resource to try different layout other than ANSI.

Hope it all works out perfectly for you.  But then again it's Matt3o here so it should be flawless  :thumb: .

It was my fault because I knew he was doing a DCS version but I forgot which key-set he was doing it in.  BECAUSE matt3o never lists the front page of his 'possible' Group Buy with what key-cap profile he will be using I naturally thought that this one was going to be a DCS version.

I normally don't read all through the postings here due to not having copious amount of time to peruse all of Geekhack but this is entirely my fault for assuming the wrong profile that's all.

Plus I experimented with something weird a day ago whilst off shift and now everything is a lot clearer.

Glad everything is better for you now. And for the GB we are all clear as crystal it will be DSA.  :D

I agree with everyone that we should have a zentradi cap as an option, though this set did start out based on the vf-1s, so it doesn't exactly fit the theme. Either way, here's a copy of their logo without the glossy highlighting and background.

Honestly robotech didn't have a lot of logos considering the number of military units throughout its various arcs. Especially during the macross saga. Best thing to possibly change would be the alphanumerics into the zentradi alphabet.

Could do the alphabet as an optional like the rebel set has. I honestly like the set as is though. Anyone that wants the set will know that it's robotech as it is now, but it's not over the top either.

I like the danger logo, even if it's not specific to the set, it fits in with the fighter/aircraft concept.

That depends on prices I think. If the main set price does not get too expensive with the merger. Otherwise, I think to keep them separated makes more sense price-wise. I hope many GHers go for this set to keep prices low.

A simple check for clarity would be to print them out actual size. If a household printer can produce the images clearly, I'd certainly hope sp is capable of delivering at least equal quality. Either way, I'm pleased with the images, "BFG" style, or wording like you have had from the start. Hope this GB can start soon.

I think we all are, but SP is kind of slow this time of year being that it's still technically the holiday-period in the United States.  Just need to have patience when everything goes back to normal business hours.

Matt3o is again making something unique here that should stand up high against his early effort the "DSA Retro Set" last year.  Nice one  :thumb: .

I just mentioned this in your midnight set as well but;

Can I suggest adding 4 additional caps for people with separate numpads?

Like an Esc-row;
Esc, Tab, Backspace, and a random key with the logo of the set.
Even blanks is fine.

Such as in Goldtouch (http://www.goldtouch.com/p-7-goldtouch-pc-usb-numeric-keypad-black.aspx) or Leopold (http://www.leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/list.php&ca_id=101003).

Matt, this set concept as well as the BoB PBT with sublimated legends are awesome. Very likely some of the best out there. This because of the colors, and profile, and the other because of the material. I hope both begin soon. Well not that soon just to allow my wallet to get warmed  :-[ .

Just double checking: Macross will be ABS w/ DS legends and the BoB will be PBT w/ sublimated ones, both in DSA profile, right?

There is always a good choice with Matt3o's Group Buys  8) .  You will never be disappointed.

I hope these two group buy do well. Both sets will be unique and they will cover most of the common layout options for cherry based boards.

Matt: Could you consider to add to the BoB a second 2.25x shift key? Sorry if this comment is out of place, and that it should be moved to the corresponding thread. I do not want to cause any confusion.

And also I wonder if the two 1x keys in the ISO set should be labeled with the appropriate UK legends. I know other languages are different, but I think ISO users may benefit of having some references in these two keys. Also the backslash key will fit most of ISO based languages.

Two 2.25u? For the Leopold? Remember that Leopold has weird mount points for the shift keys (at least so I heard). Anyway I believe the macross mods kit pretty much covers every keyboard on the planet :) (except for ergo dox and other extremes).

BoB will have all ISO languages.

UK layout has |\ to the right of the left shift, most other ISO layouts have <>. Since nobody chimed in regarding a UK layout (in more than a month) I'd say I'll keep 2 blanks for Macross.

What is this BoB?

It's a PBT Beige set. We are waiting for SP to release the PBT spacebar to start the GB.

Macross is covered, I meant to have the same for BoB. And shift mounts are standard as any other board. Any standard shift key in 2.25u fits the Leo. Non standard stem positions are in the spacebar only.

I don't like the risks involved. They don't have mechanical keyboards in jail do they?
Although rent would be cheaper :))

Just depends on how young you are?  You will pay up one way or another in jail.  Just make sure you end up in solitary after you shank someone in the throat with your sharpened toothbrush handle, that way you could avoid any bum action at night  :thumb: .

Just make sure you let everyone know you're one crazy-motherfvcker and you may be safe.

YES, hoping to wipe away tears of disappointment in not getting what I want in another Group Buy, but I won't mention it here........

At least a decent choice of DSA has been chosen for this nice feature set.  Don't change anything, just stick to the final design and everything will go over perfectly  :thumb: .

It seems to be live.

- interface is a bit clunky to select all of the 'child deals' - they need a better way to handle this
- checkout is... not working for me
- hopefully more people sign up because I'm at $201 right now....

Hey guys sorry for the difficulties with SP's new group buy site.

We have the checkout all fixed, we're using paypal now, and we managed to get our international shipping rates down to $15.

If you run into any problems or have suggestions - please let me know. We are working every day to improve this so that the site ends up being exactly what the community wants.
