But.. kmiller... you can't blame the fragmentation of the android market for the issue you encountered..
YOU CHOSE that phone..
you could've chosen the nexus 4 (6months ago), and have the same if not faster support from google, and the mods community.

true, I could have gotten a nexus phone. But that's the exception to the android fragmentation, not the standard (which it should be). And when I had bought my first android device, the Nexus devices has vastly inferior hardware at a much higher price. obviously these past few years have changed those things.
Well..OK... lets all live and discuss TODAY...
Nexus 5... cheaper, great screen, free apps forever, support from google + android communityShow Image

Today. The Nexus 5 is a pretty good competitor in the smartphone market, but as mentioned above, the camera is terrible which is a major driving factor for a lot of people, myself included.
I am quite impressed with how the screens have come on Android phones, they're on-par and in some cases above-par what Apple has which is a huge jump from back in the day.
"support from google" sure. I don't think google can spell support, It's very much more the android community where support will be coming from. Not google.
And your "free apps" argument... I prefer to not go down that path, and if absolutely necessary, buy the apps I need (mostly jailbreak-only apps)

"free"
yarr
Windows phone is intriguing, but every time I've looked at one in stores, the UI felt less "immediate". In other words, perhaps there are options to add specialized shortcuts to the start screen, but some things felt like they took a few actions to get to. Still, I'm a fan of Windows 8, having used Windows 7 Pro since when it first became available for public testing, so I'm open-minded about Windows phones. My first Windows phone was a Motorola MPx200:

It was extremely slow, but small, and it was fun to think of having a mini Windows device, though very limited. My next Windows phone was an HTC HD2 with Windows 6.5, which I used for a few weeks and then put a custom Android ROM onto it. That phone is amazing and is still going strong through a few iterations of various ROMs. I had looked into an HTC HD7 for Windows 7, but it just didn't seem appealing back when it came out. Finally, recently I played with some Nokia Windows phones, and they are definitely a lot nicer--the progress in evolution of the mobile Windows OS has been dramatic. I just still feel like having a simple field with icons on the front screen is somehow faster, but it's probably bias, coming from years of using Android (and iOS on my iPad).
did you use wp8 ? it's different than wp7
those with android make me jealous still.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention Phototelectric.
Android is utter and complete ****. Hands down. If you get an android device, good luck ever getting a new OS within 6 months of it's release by google. The android market is so fragmented and inconsistent it's terrible. If you buy a top end ($150+ phone) you might get a year of updates from the carrier, pay anything less than that and LOL, you might get one update.
Granted, you do have a very thriving community of modders like cyanogenmod and xda-developers, but that requires phones that can be unlocked and jailbroken, which is coming few and far between from what I understand, carriers are starting to crack down on that ****...
Oh and don't get me started on Android cameras, compared to the speed of the iPhone cameras, and the quality/control of the Nokia camera (in the $200+ market) no Android device comes close.
There are two phones anyone should consider, iPhone if you want a safe choice, and Windows Phone if you're feeling adventurous.
Android's current state is such utter **** it's not even funny. I'm so happy I got out of that environment :/
Nexus 5 >> iphone
camera? let's agree all phone cameras suck, exception to the nokias
OS support.. what's wrong with android.. you mention problems.. what problems did you have exactly..
and honestly..
ALL APPS on android is free... forever... Iphone, sometimes you gotta wait before you can 'arrrrgh-matey' it up.. between os jail-breaks.. that could be quite a few months in between..

Nexus 5 GG
Well, crap, like 3 months ago I got the Samsung Galaxy S4. The camera isn't horrible. But I don't really like it. I guess I shoulda got something else. I tried my niece's iPhone 5s, and that thing sucked too. I haven't had a Nokia since back in the day when cellphones just made calls.

Plus, I hate google. And I hate Verizon Wireless. And I extra-hate AT&T. What a sh!t company. They still bump calls off their network, when it gets too busy.
(I also hate rainy days, getting dog poop on my shoe, and mean people, but that's for another thread.)
I was just talking about my old Nokia today! I had a pink body that I replaced it with. It was the ****! It had no left or right arrows! Only used it for fast short texts or calls. Also it had snake. What a great, reliable, sturdy, indestructible phone!
