The poor.. wears Sweat pants, because they can't afford name brands.
The middle class.. wears Name brand, because they're afraid to be confused for being poor
The rich.. wears Sweat pants because they have no need to prove their wealth.
If this circle is to be completed by everyone who moves through classes then
The Conclusion is... Everyone should wear sweat pants all the time. (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/073.gif)

Let's just do away with clothes so the poor don't feel inferior.

I used cloths as a place holder, but the concept applies to all possessions and public representations of oneself....
You are right that the "feeling" of inferiority and superiority is a facade towards one's ego..

TIL Spam's a naturist
This is exactly right... people are afraid of what they truly are... they're afraid of equality
The inferiority complex must've evolved earliest to push people forward
The superiority complex must've evolved when personal acquisition peaked for a limited set of individuals, and so they began to measure themselves by the number of exclusion of other participants in their perspective.

Socialism ftw!

Socialism ftw!
it doesn't have to be so extreme..
My point is... rich or poor, is merely by chance of your birth and we all have more important things to worry about...
And our possessions should include a week's supply of sweat pants.. and little more. <-an example, not literal.
-
I don't think just because your born poor means your destined to be poor.

I don't think just because your born poor means your destined to be poor.
Of course not.. but we can only ever contemplate our existence in the moment.. this is where i situate the evaluation for omnipresence of sweatpants...
-
So I wear sweatpants therefore I am?
-
I am wearing sweatpants right now. Am I poor or rich? You decide.
-
I am wearing sweatpants right now. Am I poor or rich? You decide.
The point I'm trying to make is that the distinction is unnecessary.. and that EVERYONE should be wearing sweatpants.

I'm not wearing pants...

I was trying to construct a joke along the lines of;
How many socialist does it take to screw in a light bulb?
None, because in a socialist society the lightbulb hasn't been invented due to the repression of innovation, and the discourage of intelligence.
Bit long winded, but you get my point.
Woooo Keyboards! :p

I don't think socialism specifically represses innovation..
To me the Joke might be, how many, "undefined", because the lightbulb sat on the desk as everyone expected everyone else to screw it in..
THIS has nothing to do with my sweatpants campaign...

Socialism respresses innovation in a way as to say there is no incentive to innovate more than a direct challenge to it.
But in some socialist societies, the intelligent are taken out of the picture first.
Never taken something this off topic before :D

you're either wearing one with too tight of a waist band, or a size too small for you.
also.. cotton is important.. the nylon blend ones are not as soft...

Well, then you're talking about the imperfections of human nature at handling government "under the false banner of socialism."
That is separate from simply having public ownership of resources.
feel free to derail.. because I can handle all streams of discussion

I like how with sweatpants.. it just lets you sit however you like.. or lie down.. or do whatever..
With regular pants.. there's always a non-conforming fabric folds in the way somewhere..

Well, I hate to burst your anti-socialist bubble, but the Soviet Union managed to beat the rest of the world into space with the launch of Sputnik on October 4, 1957. They also managed to get the first man to orbit the Earth, when they launched Yuri Gagarin into space on April 12, 1961. The Soviets also built the MiG-15 and the Kalashnakov Assault Rifle (AK-47), both of which were highly innovative weapons and were superior to anything created by the capitalistic west, and which cost far less to produce. In America, we have a fine tradition of allowing our military contractors to sell our military sub-standard equipment, for inflated prices. From soldiers killed by eating spoiled meat during the Civil War, up to Halliburton electrocuting soldiers in Iraq as they took showers which were electrified by faulty wiring. Greed and corruption are the true hallmarks of the capitalist system, not innovation. Intelligence and innovation are not exclusive to a capitalist system. They both existed in the communist system of the Soviet Union as well. I'm not saying that we should adopt the Soviet socialist system in 'Murica, but we should be cognizant of the fact that intelligence and innovation were not repressed in the Soviet Union. Also the new Chinese stealth fighter seems like it will be better than the American F-35. The only area where we 'Muricans have been more innovative than the Russians and Chinese is in ripping off people in the financial markets. Nobody innovates better than the highly intelligent crooks on Wall Street. If you don't believe me, why don't you invest in some mortgage-backed securities? How about a buying into an expertly managed stochastic-cross hedge fund? I'm sure the boys at Goldman Sachs won't steal your money. You can trust those free-market capitalists to regulate themselves, right?

You're ALSO talking about imperfect human nature...
Separate from Capitalistic Ideals.. which is simply to offer better more efficient allocation of input and outputs.
What you're talking about is not the FAULT of capitalism..
It also does not conflict with what Tym's talking about.
Both of you are converging on the fact that PEOPLE can't handle good governance..
as to your take on the specific "innovations"... The ones you've mentioned are very EARLY systems at the very beginning of their scientific fields.. They were far less complicated than the compositions we deal with today.

Also the new Chinese stealth fighter seems like it will be better than the American F-35.
To be fair, the F-35 is a piece of crap, as it's trying to be a stealth fighter-bomber for the Marines, the Navy, and the Air Force and trying to fill too many shoes. It's trying to replace an F-22, an F/A-117, an F/A-18, an A-10, and a AV-8B. IIRC it has no built-in cannon (which was a terrible idea back with the F-4 as well) and is set up to carry outboard fuel tanks (which counters the point of Stealth). We really would've been better off keeping the F-22 in production as a replacement for the F-15 and having different developments for the other branches. Also, why did we feel the need to phase out the F/A-117, when it's a perfectly capable stealth fighter-bomber?

It's still a very awesome machine.

The F-35 though is a modern day requisite though, the multi role aircraft for the budget military of today!
The US isnt suffering quite as much as we are with regards to budget cuts, but we can no longer afford bombers and air to air combat vehicles.
Also I dont believe China is anylonger a serious Socialist nation. But im not biting ;)

Maybe canada.. but who cares....
The USA can afford anything, because it is already the biggest ponzi scheme in existence.. Indeed too big to fail..
It can print as much as it wants.. the issue is only a matter of "rate"
As long as reserves of most nations are USD, there is no incentives for the Wealthy conglomerates of those nations to dump..
An instability would help NO ONE...
So this train just keeps going..
The US also has large tracks of FLAT LAND...
Even cut off from Europe and Asia, The US would simply bully canada and south america into giving us stuff.

No. It's not. It's a giant waste of money. Actually, the best fighter plane ever built is still the F-15. We never really needed anything after that. The only reason we keep buying new planes is to enrich the military/ industrial complex. Stealth technology is fun, but it's only really useful in a world war with a another super power. It made sense to build stealth planes during the cold war, but now? Do you really need a one billion dollar aircraft to drop a bomb on the Taliban?
@Tym: Yeah, I see you were joking, but I guess I'm just jealous that you live in a country that has always done a better job of balancing socialism with capitalism. There was that rough patch with Thacherism back in the '80's, but overall the UK has a much better balance than the US.

I don't disagree the JSF program could've been managed better.. but the PLANE itself is quite sound...
Is it useful.... eh........... You train for 100s of days till one day, that skill is used..
We don't know if another world war will come... or when...
The military industrial complex is quite pivotal to modern innovation... It takes Ridiculous amounts of money to work at our current level of technological complexity..
There is no other way to do it...

Oh Thatcher, never could a woman spilt opinions so heavily. Im not sure of my views on her policies really (Well I disagreed with most of them). But I do respect how she left, with dignity, it wasnt a bad effort.
We're going to save some serious money when we pull out of Afghanistan, when do the US pull out? I know we pull out early 2014.
It'll be interesting how China budget themselves when they go in, I imagine drones, lots of drones. They have the manpower yes, but do they need it with the resources they have available?
Also dont feel jelous of the UK they just banned porn :( Albeit badly.

The plane itself is OK, though I think the F-22 would've been considerably better than this. I just feel the JSF program was a pretty poor idea, thinking that the Navy, the Marines, and the Air Force could all use the same plane from different launch platforms for different purposes. If the F-35 was focused on being launched from a single type of platform, be it an airstrip, a carrier, or a small carrier, then it could be a great plane and a very good companion to the F-22. The plane in its current state is pretty sad, though.

The poor... are cheap because that's all they can afford.
The middle class... buy expensive crap to compete with each other, look like they have money, and get in debt.
The rich... are cheap, because how do you think they got and stay rich? LOL if they freely gave away their money by tipping well, donating without factoring tax incentives, or bought "blingy" crap, they wouldn't be rich very long.

On innovation, USSR was in a state of competition with the US (cold war, space race, etc.) so innovation was valued. If some poor genius came up with an idea which could put them a step ahead, his invention was given attention and resources. Any "peaceful" socialist innovations worth mentioning? Socialism doesn't promote a good work ethic or drive to innovate without externally created incentives. You work, you eat, you don't work, you still eat.
On the other hand, the current patent system and the way corporations work in most of the democratic world is not a great breeding ground for innovation, either. Many people come up with great ideas only to discover they can't afford to protect the idea with a patent since they don't have a massive R&D budget to turn it into a product in the time required before patent costs become astronomical (international patents are EXPENSIVE, but can be deffered for 6 to 18 months depending on the process used). So they sit on the idea and try to develop it themselves, often with disastrous results (many inventors are not great with finance or other aspects of starting or running a business). Besides, truly innovative ideas are rarely immediately profitable (due to requiring development to make them more practical or lack of market acceptance due to being too "different", etc).
Corporations CAN afford to develop innovative concepts and do, but only those deemed to be profitable for their business, not necessarily ones beneficial to their customers, the environment or mankind in general.
It's hard to find a balance and especially hard to incentivise people to excel, while making them feel safe should they fail, which is what is needed to promote true progress.
People need to know they'll be looked after, while also being shown that their ideas and input are valued.
Think about someone like Leonardo Da Vinci, for instance. What kind of job do you think he'd be doing nowadays? Would he be able to find his place in current western democratic society or in a socialist one? His ideas were so broad in scope, that a single company wouldn't be able to produce them all, so even if he ended up in the R&D section of a massive company, he'd still feel stifled and restricted. In a socialist state, he'd most likely simply be ignored or end up doing some technical maintenance work. Even if he ended up at a university, most of them are run like businesses nowadays, the scientific paper publishing system is a mess and he'd have to keep submitting ideas to the board that can make profit for them in order to keep earning his residency.
Bah humbug! Mumble mumble...
On sweatpants, I like them. I usually don't actually sweat in them (and all building interiors here are heated), so cotton works for me.

The only time I'm not wearing sweatpants is when I leave the house. Other than that, I'm in sweatpants all the time. There's just nothing better. Who would choose jeans or anything else over sweatpants when it comes to comfort? I'm talking physical comfort, not mental comfort like self esteem or "looking good" comfort.

I'm not wearing pants...
Be careful about that because wearing nothing below might place you at greater risk of getting bit by a number of vicious creatures here in Australia :thumb: . It's mostly for protection rather than anything else.
Nothing worse if a snake and/or spider bite is on your nuts, you have to ask yourself - who is going to suck the poison out?

I got a new pair of sweatpants for Christmas! Comfy.
My old pair have rips at the bottom of the leg from my bicycle :(
I usually can't wait to change from my work jeans into sweatpants when I get home. I also like a really comfy hoodie. Why can't they make comfortable smart clothes?
