What's the story behind this 75% with the wrist rest?

It looks glorious if it's metal.  I love wrist rests, but only if they're integrated with the case like on gamer boards.

i found that IC thread, but the pics were showing it with the palm rest area wiped out, so it seems like that wasn't for the exact case I'm asking about.
